From the press release when he last re-signed:
As part of his contract, Cane has the option of taking a non-playing or playing break from the New Zealand game in 2024.
A good chance Cane takes that now I would suggest.

@mariner4life what provincial wagons are those?
-
I would think Razor is in a very good position as a selector to pick the 2024 squad.
For the last 7 years he has coached and coached against all the NZ players in SR,
He would have a good handle on players strengths which he would have had to combat and any weakness which he would be looking to exploit.
And knowing the same about the players he had coached.
I guess McDonald and Holland should also be aware of who fits into their vision of The ABs tactics and game shape.
For much the same reasons. -

i wonder why people think roberson will pick a team that they will approve of. for example he may think cane is the best person to lead the team next year as a lot of experence has gone and needs a leader that has the experence to bring the new players in
Yeah, we have no idea what team he will pick outside of the Crusaders bubble he's been in. He probably hasn't analysed a lot of the non Crusaders players from a selectorial point of view.
you think? i kind of think to get the gig he would/should have shown how much he knew about players outside his current team, i also think he'll have a very good idea on all the other players in NZ from oppo research and surely you cant help but think "i wish i could pick them"
One thing i do hope he does is reevaluate people that fozzie may have looked and and discarded (AI?), just to confirm if they werent up to it or if a different coach cant get the best out of them
Well I guess I should have been more specific in that as a Crusaders coach he wouldn't have been doing that, do I think he has been doing that since Super finished, yes of course. But that doesn't help any of us as fans have an idea of where he will lean. I was talking more of the mindset of evaluating players always in the context of your team rather than as an opposition coach. For example, I know that Razor has evaluated Fakatava in the context of his team because he tried to get him for the Crusaders. Not sure if he's ever looked at the Ginga in the same way?
So don't disagree with your post, just think you misinterpreted mine a bit.
I think the problem for AI is the fat forwards coach and he aint changing. He preferred that women hitting passenger who played in the final, Jacobsen and Ta$man Jesus.

Not this Ioane shit again
Our visionless, hungus non-distributing centre threw the last pass in the first two tries of our biggest win in a couple of years not a fortnight ago.
no no no @mariner4life, he's not as good as a hypothetical who combines Conrad, Bruce Robertson, Horan and Lomu.
Rough on Bunce, Stanley and 1920s superstar Bert Cooke.

I think i got what you meant....i just think he's been in the frame for the top job for so long that i would be surprised if he wasn't using that time to build up a bit of a dossier for if/when he got it
i mean, he was announced in march...so i dont think he will have waited for the super season to end to look at it through a different lens. I feel hes the kind of guy that has been viewing players through an AB coach lens for a long time...but at very least since March
-
ah, some insight into the Razor mind might be who he picked and retained and talked about in the invitational/junior teams he coached?
-
one letter....you managed to save the time it took to type one letter....

Either that or he’s captaining the NZ b team. Also known as the JABs or NZ A

@reprobate and what's the alternative? Scott Barrett who has brain explosions on a regular...
I've been impressed with Ardie's captaincy this year, I actually think he's matured a lot compared to when he started captaining the side a couple years ago (when he was prone to make silly decisions).
Can’t fault Ardie for leading by example. If it’s not Ardie, Sam or Scott does Jordie have leadership credentials??

Ardie has runs on the board, even if he isn't everyone's cup of tea. As far as alternatives, it has to be a nailed on starter this time. Maybe captaincy will be the making of Scooter? He's oone of our best forwards now
-
ardie will be 34 come the next world cup, so whilst im happy for him to keep performing in the black jersey as long as he can....it wouldn't be a surprise if he is losing a yard of pace especially considering how hard he plays...and i would hate to be in a situation where we were picking someone as captain and they were no longer first choice in their position
im a big fan of picking your best 15 and then selecting the captain form that...so im wont be upset if we dont get a captain named until the first squad gets named
-
For me Jordie is a nailed on starter too. But not sure if captaincy materiel. As an aside I’m now convinced about rieko at centre. Thought our midfield was as good as any other at the RWC. We really need another lock or two to replace the veterans and a blindside. The backs will take care of themselves.
-
@Billy-Tell yeah, not concerned about rieko....i just want us to play to his strengths more, work out how we can get him hitting a soft outside shoulder and only receiving the ball a second beforehand
