All Blacks 2024.. locked

young players coming through must find it a little frustrating...patchy form currently and NZR want to lock in a 36 year old outside back?

Kinda makes sense if Robertson wants to build on the current team (pretty successful - lost the RWC final by one point) and evolve things rather than throw everything up in the air from day one.
Then again, why want to contract BB for 4 years?

god i hope thats not the case, was hoping for a bit of a seachange, everyone re earning their spot, just keep forster if we want more of the same
-
Why wouldn't we want BB to stick around? We have been lamenting the loss of experience for years.
-
@Crazy-Horse not all of us, personally i find the obsession with experience over form frustrating

I'm happy for him to stay for experience if he's cheap (and we can retain future stars), but I've always hated losing experienced super rugby players that boost that comp up overall and don't cost the earth.

100% this. BB running around playing Super Rugby, and being available for the ABs if required is fucking great.
Unless
He is being guaranteed a 10 or 15 jersey that stalls the development of another player in a key position. If his form warrants it, then no worries, but being picked on his reputation is an issue when we have 5 spots in the country to develop players
His salary means the NZRU can't afford to keep a guy like Finau and he ends up in France.
Who would run NZ rugby aye?

I am looking forward to your vociferous defence of everything Razor next year.

Absolute bollocks that this would be the case.
-
@Frank i believe it with a lower case "g"...so not in his contract but a hand shake. As i have been reminded lots of times, the AB's arent a Representative team in the traditional sense, central contracts make them more like the club structure, we cant afford to to have loads of player contracts that arent playing

I too wish that BB would retire but thank furk he was at 15 for the final and not Jordan.
I will go against the grade here fellas, I am stoked that Beauden is looking at signing for NZR, the more players we have in the country, the better our depth is. Have no thoughts on whether he will or should make ABs (smarter people than me will decide that), but just love older players like him being around, I said same with Ryan Crotty and John Afoa coming home and playing. It makes our rugby better, more competition for places, more experience! Will do for me.
And to even imagine any player is guaranteed a spot is I think fantasy . -
@Dan54 Yep, it's great if older players can pass on their knowlegde to young up-and-comers.
I also quite liked that Crotty only accepted his new contract after making sure he wasn't blocking the pathway of a young, talented player.
I really hope that players are picked on form and not on past reputation or experience. All Blacks have always seemed undroppable and that just isn't good enough.
BB hasn't been great in black and in blue in recent years and I'd hate the thought of him potentially blocking the development of a young gun, instead helping it.
Because, by the time he retires, you don't want this ...

It's been the case at the Blues. On form he should not have been continued to be Blues 10 but was.
-
I dont follow the lower level stuff like i used to ,
Where do we rate Perofeta ?
is he likely be to be a genuine option ?
-
@kiwiinmelb Yes. Capped by the ABs already and will be first choice Blues 10.
Questions remain about his big game temperament - he hasn't had a lot of chances at 10 in big games but there is a sense he shrinks in bigger moments.
Given the gap left by Mo'unga there's a spot available but equally there's no guarantee - could equally be Cameron or Burke etc taking that AB spot - not sure how Razor and Holland rate him and Leon tended to prefer BB at 10.
-
@Stargazer Yep understand what you saying, I not anti BB, and can't see Razor picking him unless he thinks he is best for job, as I believe Foster/Schmidt did. As I say if anyone whatever their age is commited to NZ rugby, I want them here in NZ, and to be in the picture for AB selection whether they needed or not.

I watched Perofeta a lot last couple of seasons for the Naki, I at most of their games. The honest truth is he is not first pick for Naki at NPC level, and not overly convinced he a test quality 10 ,or 15 for that matter.

I'm not overly concerned about his Naki form as honestly he's tended to play better for the Blues than Taranaki - you can't convince me Potroz is a better player than Perofeta and yet at times Barnes/Naki has preferred Potroz.
The proof will be in the pudding this year without Beauden whether Perofeta can stamp his mark.
-
@KiwiMurph yep mate I really hope he does step up, I not against him by any means. I have just waited for him to fulfil the hype that I first heard in 2017 while living in Aus.
Out of interest the best 10 for the Naki this year was Jacomb.
