What would be freaking hilarious is if we stopped doing that high ball without chasers shit and executed exits with perfection. That would be a right mindfuck.
It's all so weird. It's one thing to hold back a bit and play conservatively. Powder dry etc etc. But this team has struggled to get even the fundamentals right. Just look at the game against France. Yet now the skill level, accuracy and execution are off the chart. It's like a switch was flicked. How does that even happen? If this truly was Foster's grand plan then I will personally place a bucket of KFC at his doorstep, write humble on a pie and eat it.
What I’ve been thinking , the way our lineout is functioning, kicking it out may actually be a good thing

I'm at a family weekend in Kent for the Final. I have a choice of watching it with Mrs M's children and young grandchildren (neither are really all that into rugby) or slinking back to the hotel and watching it on my own.
I'm taking a half-bottle of Single Malt and opting for the hotel room.
Golf club that I laughingly attend and pretend I actually swing a club, have club champs on Sunday, so have got a tv etc set up, and someone cooking breakfast to watch the game before the champs etc. That's a hearty NO from me, I mates with them (will probly only have 8-10 there) and nice small club, but I am a rugby man first and foremost, and find it very hard to watch games of importance with people wha aren't deep down rugby people!! The generally watch games on TV etc when it suits. I hear one halfwit comment like 'why did he kick it" etc etc when it's obvious why, I may lose my rag.
We get enough on forums, but I only see them after games etc, not ruining enjoyment of game! -

I agree, Eng were all over Bok lineout. It does slow the game down tho

We spent more time here than at both SFs last weekend
A hoot
Aux Trois Mailletz
Highly recommended
We didn’t eat, but it looked good

By the way on kicking in games, and we had a few complain about Nugget's box kick just before fulltime in QF against Ireland. Bryn Hall said why he thought he did (phew same as what I did), as trying to hold onto ball at end of game they worked out is only really good for 1 min 40 secs and then teams tend to get penalised as someone will get isolated etc. That's kind of shows you how deep these teams go in prep etc as no doubt Crusaders etc had it worked out.

Oh hell mate, I guess it can be, just not for me, the mere fact that someone can comment/type on a computer while game is on is to me someone who doesn't get into and watch the game real hard. Not knocking how others watch games or anything, some like talking shit etc, I just like to watch and absorb what's happening. I know I a f***en rugby nerd, and happy to admit it.

It was a bit freakish Ireland went so long , and it could’ve been penalised earlier than it was when Ardie was over the ball

Or the 2 neck rolls

Interesting stats. Obviously you need to take into account that SA have played the much harder games than ABs - We had France in pools, and Ireland in quarters as hard games. They had Ireland and Scotland in pools, then France, then England being gritty in shitty weather

Mindspace probably. Teams collectively struggle and then it suddenly clicks and reinforces the mindset.
We've all been there. Can they keep it up for one more game?

We enjoyed the SFs, Saturday more than Friday

So do those is say pretty much everyone backing black?
Listen to Matfield in Tim's video. Those Boks won't be turning up flat or tired. In 1995, we turned up half-dead and still took them to extra time.
We've got a small preparatory advantage, that's turned into a "we're gonna win" vibe. Everyone I've talked to is feeling it and I can see it in this thread.
Don't believe it. This will be at least as intense as the Ireland game and anything can happen. Just look at England last time - looked a sure bet and fell heavily on their arse!
And this is a "must win" game. Arguably the most important game in 20 years.
Just which 20 years is the question.
Not as important as the 2011 final - because in that game the monkey on our back had turned into a gigantic Gorilla that needed to be shot off the Empire State Building!
But, more important than 2015, when the relief of winning in 2011 would have sustained us - and when we had the confidence to smack the shit out of that monkey and bury him so deep that he couldn't dig his way out in the following eight years.
But, what have we seen in the past eight years? Aura left Twickenham dressed in designer robes, having put the fear of God (and Danny Boy) into all opposition.
We had a free swing in 2019 and missed it - and charitably left making noises of how it's nice for someone else to win for a change, blah, blah...
But now we're in 2023 and I can hear the sound of the fucking monkey's shovel. Jonny Sexton hasn't given Aura a thought - and the rest of us have seen glimpses of her buying clothes at the Warehouse.
If we win, we can collect the gold and bury that monkey under a massive pile of tailings. We will rock up to the 2027 tournament with the "won three of the last four" narrative. Aura will be the belle of the ball!
If we lose, it will be 12 long years since we won the Big Cup. Aura will be an Insta Ho and we'll have a fucking zombie monkey in tow. The narrative will be all about the Boks going for a three-peat - and a 5-3 advantage over us in Cups won.
We cannot have that!!!

A huge game alright. Unexpected based on the goings on during this cycle, but a massive opportunity for the ABs to remind everyone what AB rugby is all about
As shit as we have been by our standards , in any one off game , we would still be a chance of winning ,our record against the boks was still around 50-50 so I don’t think we had as much ground to make up as we sometimes think

Nah, no switch has been flicked, we’ve just gotten lucky.
We got well beaten by France, then tuned up some Tier 3 nations. Italy laid down for us.
Ireland choked, Argentina spent their load a week earlier.
We have stumbled into this Final and we don’t have a hope in hell of coming out victorious
Underdogs barely begins to describe the hopelessness of the situation

Stop it. You're making me nervous.

I'm expecting us to kick a lot. We do anyway, and England (and RC test) showed that the boks are weak under the high ball on defence. I'm hoping we don't do that too much with the ball landing in our half. I also hope that when that pressure tells on SA we can do something with it, unlike England
