RWC Final: All Blacks v Springboks

Well, I don't really know how to process that. I'm still gutted by the loss, but happy that we gave it a good nudge and scored the only try(s).
Card lottery. Knock on lottery. TMO lottery.
Jordan picked a bad day to have a bad game.
@sparky Shield Snorter BBBR was one of our best out there.

Congratulations Cane and Foster good show
SA were smarter this what irks me
Rugby is not the same game cf 3 years ago. It's not easy but both yellows were preventableWere they smarter though? They got two YCs as well. So just as dumb as each other.
Still very surprised that the Kolisi one didn’t get upgraded.
For me the execution of two or three moments is what let us down. We were certainly good enough to put ourselves in a position to win the game.

Rugby is a funny game.
We won the set piece. Had more ball, more carries, they made like 2 and a half the tackles we did. Made linebreaks. And we just couldn't win.
Our outside backs conceded 16 turnovers - theirs conceded five. I think that's the nub of where we lost it.
Stats aye. I wonder what the turnover to possession ratio is?

I have no problem with the outcome of either captain's card. Clear difference based on the framework and mitigation.
Can you elaborate further ? How was Canes harsher than Kolisis ? ( i missed part of the latters as I was getting my third helping of bacon and eggs )
Cane was upright, with reasonable force, direct contact. No mitigation.
Kolisi had contact through the body, lowered himself a little, and the head contact was almost incidental like a whiplash.
Seems they were looking for mitigation for Golden Boy.
No mitigation for Cane for the sudden dip and change of direction?

I think this meme is more accurate than the one with Barnes holding the cup.
I don't think he was too bad, aside from that Faf knock on at the scrum made up call, but the TMO certainly got his share of the screen time.
The only thing I'd really call Barnes out on was that he would call play it earlier for Smith than for Faf.
-
What could we have done differently.
I think Roigard on the bench could have given us what we needed at the death. I think we missed a few touches we would have liked to have again and I think we went for the corner too early when there were points on offer. Should Cane have made more of the forearm to the face. Probably squeaky wheel and all that. Finally I think dmac needed more time to work some magic for us. He looked dangerous with every touch.

None of that was on Barnes. Barnes was fine, it was the random TMO coming in that was the difference. Barnes shouldn't be copping it

Better characterized by "every time we got in a position to do something good, we fucked it up". And it seemed like lots.

That final play sort of summed it up
DMac somehow breaks the field open. Savea (who was exhausted) wasn't clean, and nor was ALB. -

Can’t get over the fact SA won this in spite of the genius coach, lineout nearly cost them because he didn’t pick a hooker, backline he got away with it because they didn’t play any rugby and NZ knocked on in wide channels too many times. Pollard did nothing and kicked badly in the second half because he was knackered. Bomb squad had no impact whatsoever. Jeez I hate Rassie
He just has the midas touch. Some people are just winners and he is one of them. Somehow the stars will always align for people like these.

@nzzp yeah as I said above, I find this aspect most frustrating, I general play the TMO Will ignore knock ons, forward passes etc...but if a try is scored.he scours the game to find one to scrub it out.
I mean Barnes.saw that knock by Ardie, said it went back, let it go, so TMO has over ruled the ref (yes with the correct call) maybe justbhave spider cam and 3 refs sit in a room full of cameras and the whistle over over the loudspeaker...
I realise the game.would be even more stop start, but maybe need to go back to the days of the.ref asking for the input and they can only intervene on foul play.
Reminds me of that game when in SA when the TMO made a correct design but disregarded protocol. Now the balance has really tipped too far
"Dou you want more information, Nigel?" - "Yes" - "The last pass was forward". Remember that interaction, I think Jimmy Cowan was the passer or try scorer, and if memory serves me right, the TMO was a Saffer. In a game involving South Africa. Weird stuff
Izzy Dagg involved maybe?
TMO was late replacement I think.
Correct but wrong call. Difficult to feel aggrieved.
Bit like Ardie's knock on. Disappointing but correct call.

Huh, I was saying the exact same thing.

This sounds super harsh but I'm glad we are starting a new chapter

I don't blame Barnes.
How can you not? He abrogated his responsibility to a clown of a TMO.

Aaron Smith should have played the full 80. Cam will be the 9 next year if he continues on his arc
Colesy and Roigard should have played.
Sami T was good I thought, Taylor lost some crucial moments.

I think there were a number of inconsistencies with the way Barnes reffed the tackle and ruck.
“Hands on the ground”, ABs penalised. He didn’t even say he wasn’t supporting his body weight (aka Owen’s interpretation), yet there were at least two other times that Boks players had their hands on the ground and were awarded a penalty or a TO occurred.
