RWC SF: All Blacks v Argentina

Watching the Stan preview, 2 things spring to mind:
- It’s extraordinary that SBW is getting paid to speak; and
- We are going to put 30 on Argentina on Saturday

Christie again
FFS. Let's hope Smith stays on for the full 80 minutes again.
(unless the AB's have a big lead with say20105 minutes left). As we found out last week, we're better off just sending Aaron to stand behind the try line for 5 minutes either side of halftime and play with 14.
with at most 2 more games in the black jersey...good bloody luck getting him off the field i would say
I'm hoping the try line is on the field this week.
Pretty sure selections reflect this
You've heard then 😉

And Jordie should have been 12 long ago.
Anyone know how many Super Rugby Games Jordie has started at 12 before Foster put him there?
Probably as many as he started on the wing or at 13.
When he filled in at MF during the Lions tour I knew he could do it, as did you. It took a while but everyone else eventually caught up mate...
Hate to rain on yours and @Rancid-Schnitzel little parade but if you got back through the TSF history books you will find that I was a very early advocate of him playing 2nd 5 when he was just a young pup playing for Canterbury. And sure enough Razor got my emails back in 2016 and played him there….
Don't want to turn this into a "4 Yorkshiremen" skit but you would also find that I too was advocating for him around that time. But it was a no brainer because he was playing for the NZ U20s and Canterbury at.....farking 12.

Let's hope he carries that 2016 U20 knockout stage form into the Argentinian semi then.

@DaGrubster the day of that 'greatest game of Rugby ever' in 2000 in Sydney, the entire team was in a lappy bar in town drinking and err cahorting. Didn't seem to impact them that night, maybe they should do it again lol
As long was they weren't cavorting with the strippers, all good.

Well as he played 12 for NZ U20s and was always a 12, he also always said he preferred 12 as a position it was certainly nothing new. He played there for Canterbury and had a few games for Canes there, can't remember how many.

Always looked like a utility type with his skills , can understand why he didn’t play much 12 in seniors in the beginning because he was just so tall and skinny looking , and then he started looking at home at fb.
, but i thought it was always a possibility he may return there down the track if he bulked up .

Just an interesting question in my mind, for the semi's this weekend, have we ever been in the situation where 3 of the 4 teams have suffered a loss before semis and were second in their pools?

Not unsurprising when the general consensus before the tournament was that this RWC would be the most openly contested ever

When they asked him about the value of Nuggie to the team, it was just embarrassing 🙈

@voodoo Argentina to score 31?
Damn you! 😀
But seriously, I have us WINNING by 30 tomorrow. All this talk of overconfidence in the team is nonsense. They’ll have prepared well, they know what’s ahead.
I’m going with 42-10
-
@voodoo I think there are enough there with hurt from 2019 to remove any complacency, especially when we put Ireland out last time in the 1/4 too.
-
I am going to be pissed off if the ABs win on the weekend. I have been really calm during this cup, having resigned myself to a limp AB effort. Now I am slowly starting to build hope and if we make the final I will be a fucking nervous wreck. Damn you Fozzie.
-
@stodders What those tables might show is that it's been quite a late decision to back the young props on the bench - Williams especially played a lot less minutes than Ofa, which you wouldn't expect if they'd been building Tamaiti to play in the play-offs.
Similarly, it looks to me that they've made a late decision to revert back to Christie.

@stodders our reserve 9 has 43 minutes. Lol
Not ideal - hopefully we get out by my predicted 30 point lead by the 37 min mark so we can double his playing time 🤪

I was surprised his minutes were that low.
-
Everyone relax. Stuart Barnes thinks we're in trouble. Pretty much every time this sour, misguided midget predicts our downfall we romp home.
-
Why are they sticking with Christie? It seems odd.
-
@His-Bobness won't find anyone who disagrees here. We're all miffed about it but I think the lack of comment this week is we're all resigned to it.
-
with at most 160mins of rugby in the Black jersey left im wondering if theyre just going to let smith run and they know there will be less questions about having left Christine on the bench than if the young gun Roigard wasn't used...let Roigard have his moment in the sun next year

@Chris-B yeah this guy

@mariner4life he must do alright at the roulette table though, always betting against black!

He's normally very gushy about the ABs, and also correct in this point. He's also correct that the level of game in NH club rugby is much more intense than SR. If the Puma throw everything at the ABs, and get ahead whilst messing up/frustrating them, these ABs are more than likely to 'freeze'. He also says that England have a better chance of an upset, so doesn't actually think Arg are in with a realistic chance.
-
On Christie - when they say he has an edge on defense, I assume they mean his ability to organise the defense around the fringes, like what Smith was doing against Ireland. They probably had some concerns there with Roigard being so young and the likelyhood of us being attacked in those channels, so went for a more experienced head. The plan is to play Smith for 80 though, unless the game this weekend gets beyond doubt.

I think your first bit is right - but not the bit quoted.
The last game was the first since the 2015 semifinal than AS has started and not been subbed.
They usually pull him around 60-65 minutes.
-
@Chris-B but world cup knockout games arnet "usual", i also think if it is at all close then he does 80
-
@Kiwiwomble I'll be very surprised. AS got a 20 minute rest around halftime so was able to play the last 30 minutes of the last game.
It was pretty noticeable vs the Boks earlier this season that they started getting to Aaron just before he got subbed.
While on the topic, your logic on Christie's selection further above is also bit sketchy - what if Smith gets injured in the first minute? I don't think they'd want 79 minutes of their third choice halfback.

world cup semi final and possibly his last game for the AB's...you bet

All Blacks World Cup Semi Final day. That will always make me think of this.
