Speaking of which,
ColesCodie and ScoBa had a habit of giving away stupid avoidable penalties v England. They both ahve to be on their games this weekend. The one that Coles did at the end of the first half in Test 1 against England that led to a try was just infuriating. He's better than that.ScoBa has an incredible workrate, but has had a tendency to do some dumb things at the same time as doing great stuff.
Going to be a cracking test match! -

Codie Taylor was the one who gave away the dumb penalty vs England
I've been pleased with fewer cards and avoidable penalties under the Razor regime so far.

I think this win has to go down as one of the best in AB history, certainly modern history anyway. Ireland should have won that RWC with the team they had and the form they were win, this loss will haunt their players for years to come.

Don't agree at all, they had been overachieving with the players they had for years.
Look at the pack weights and the disparity in size AND height between Ireland and NZ before the game - across both forwards and backs, Ireland are very light and skinny in every position by top international standards except prop, most of their best players were in early 30's and over the hill, and they had NZders like Aki, JGB and Lowe starting for them, guys who were not even starting for their SR sides and were never close to making the All Blacks, to say Ireland should have won RWC with the team they had is ludicrous, of any nation at 23 WC they were a 'system' team and benefited from their insane cohesion levels and existing combinations from Leinster.
France or NZ should've won 23 RWC with the squads they had, if not for a terribly skewed draw & poor officiating one of them would've, SA squeaked over the line due to O'Keefe in the France QF, everyone who's analyzed the game sees that.

and yet, they were world no 1. Ludicrous to suggest that the world No 1, who were beating everyone consistently were favourites?

@darylmitchell it's OK to acknowledge that other sides have great players, and sometimes (God forbid) they have even better players than the ABs. As you say that Irish side had insane cohesion which counts for a lot at test level, as well as class players across the board, stacks of experience, and in great form with confidence high going into that RWC. They were deserved no. 1 and favourites for the cup. On the flip side the ABs had been inconsistent (being kind) leading into the cup, we had no right to knock them out of the quarter, that was their year. One of the sweetest AB victories I can remember.

The team they have isn't hugely talented, and it never was, it's extremely cohesive and well coached, but there's only a couple of truly 'world-class' players across the squad. look at their streamlined system that's worked to help the national team succeed at all cost, their centralization and high-performance structures and player pathways - they became the most efficiently run union in the world under Nucifora.

Right so because we were inconsistent under Foster and lost the 3 test series to Ireland at home we had no right to expect the All Blacks to perform to their potential?
It sounds awfully similar to the sentiment under Foster which Sam Whitelock shared in his book regarding the France test in 2021: "We were coming up with excuses for a loss before we'd even played the game.".

No right? you do remember us beating the Irish in the 1st test 43-17 when Schmidt was interim head coach because Foster was away for the entire week with Covid?

You have to be favourite to actually choke, and that's what Ireland did. World number 1, longest win streak, choke in the quarters

Any excuse to watch the closing minutes of that match again, is a good excuse.
Ireland were a great team and still are. Fully worthy of their current place near the pointy end. We were the same in 2007. You don't always get what you think you deserve. You get what you do deserve.

Agreed. The benefits of having such a squad play together as much as they do can't be overlooked.
They're clearly well coached and have confidence in their knowledge of their systems and each other.
