RWC QF: All Blacks v Ireland

@NTA I think the difference today was, when they went the short option, some.AB forward whacked them, hard
Unlike last time we played them, we covered the wrap, but also shut down the forward runners. I haven't seen the ABs hit like that on D for a while

Because someone asked
Sam Whitelock is now the most victorious player in Rugby World Cup history, notching up his 21st win and counting. Trailing Whitelock are Richie McCaw (20), Keven Mealamu (19), Sonny Bill Williams (18) and South Africa’s Francois Steyn (17).
Also
Johnny Sexton played his 15th test against the All Blacks for Ireland, and 18th overall including the British and Irish Lions. He surpassed Wales’ Alun Wyn Jones (17) for most tests by any northern hemisphere player against New Zealand.
He probably has a pretty good win percentage on that, too

@NTA What minute was Smith's yellow card?
About 35.
He had 5mins either side of the break
Cunning plan to keep Christie on the bench

Don’t cry now lad. If Uncle Sam won’t buy you an ice-cream, uncle Will will get you one.
Lol I thought the exact same thing

Sexton's words to Ioane shown there at about 17 seconds in. Who wants to lip read?
Looked like fuck up
Apparently reiko had his hand up to his ear asking why the Irish have gone so quiet

Unlike.
Reminds me of a team too pleased with themselves and about to crash hard the following week.
Reminds me of Ireland 2015 actually.
It's up to all of us to keep bagging them. Dare them to win to spite us!
Tbh, even the good/great AB teams struggled the following week after a standout knock-out match. Difference is, this is a shit AB team.

That's the spirit!

I've just realised that game at the end was almost the inverse of 2013.
We sneaked it in 2013 because of our attack. in 2023 it was because of our defence.

All 6 tries were scored by New Zealanders!
Apart from the penalty try....
... And the Tongan

Tbh, I actually thought that was a pic of Fakatava, not Smith. Optical illusion where the hand cradling his head looks like he has a dyed ridiculous mullet.

It took 84 minutes (41 in the 1st and 43 in the 2nd) to beat this Irish team. They didn't do what they had done for the past 17 matches. They made mistakes. Their set piece was under massive pressure. They fluffed their maul attack with less than 10 to go. There were players with hands on hips with 2 minutes still on the clock. Even with space they couldn't take advantage of 1-on-1 contests.
So I don't disagree with Kearney in what is an Irish analysis of the match for an Irish audience (BTW who was the Aussie at the end of that coverage?). He was clearly disappointed. Sounded very familiar to the post 2007 QF analysis, where we didn't play even remotely to what we had been playing prior to the RWC.

A bit of whining in that article from the Times (here).
For starters, I think the angle people use to say it was shoulder to the head is quite clearly the chest anyway, but even then, the TMO/Bunker gets tons of angles anyway, they'd have checked everything with scrutiny, and I imagine with the reverse/side angle, you'd probably quite clearly see it is an optical illusion... did his shoulder nudge the chin? Probably, but only after bumping up off the chest.
The biggest miss from the TMO was a neck roll on Rieko on about the 32nd phase of that last movement.
I thought I also saw a swinging arm connect with Savea's head. It was right before we kicked the 50 22 so advantage was played. I don't think anyone has mentioned it on here yet. There were no replays of it (surprise surprise). Anyone else see it?

AB pressure didn't force Doris to drop the ball cold.
ABs pressure didn't stop Ireland contesting the high ball on several occasions.
AB pressure wasn't responsible for all the Ireland lineout issues.Yes it was.

yes, Barnes said clearly advantage was played..however if it was contact to the head, then I would have liked to have seen the replay
