That is a bloody good win since both Kane and Mitchell retired after notching up half tons. Pretty much every batsman except Conway made a useful contribution.
Kane's already ruled out of the opener but should have two warmups under his belt before the tournament gets under way, so feels like he'll be ready for our second game.

Afghanistan looking quite comfortable against Bangladesh so far. 39-0 after 7 overs
They are replacing the Windies so they have a bit to live up to.
Couldn’t keep it going though. All out for 156. Bangles appear to be comfortably chasing it down
Saffas off to a solid start against SL in the other match

During the recent warm up series in Bangladesh , it dawned on me that if they made ODI pitches difficult to bat on then I'd enjoy/watch this format again.
With modern bats (plus some extra scoring shots invented in the T20 era) teams can 'struggle' to 230 odd on pitches that used to be 170-par in the 90s.
Thar was fun to watch. Some risk v reward jeopardy keeping the viewing interesting the whole match.
These 450 v 350 matches bore me senseless for the 50% of the match your team isnt batting.
Only 'problem ' i see with my proposed spicy ODI pitch hypothesis is - the only way to make a pitch evenly difficult for 100 overs is if it is 'over dry' rather than a bit sticky. So spin and pace-off would be the dominant bowling method.

South Africa score a massive 428 yesterday against Sri Lanka, NRR putting them second behind us. Although doesn’t matter early on you get the feeling that NRR later will have an impact later. NZ and SA putting pressure on others early with those results

Back in the day big hitters really earnt their boundaries.
Guys like Viv Richards, Beefy Botham, Gordon Greenidge etc.
Nowadays the bats just make it so fucken easy in comparison. I was pissing round with my son’s bat and had a bit of a swing at a full toss he threw me and was shocked at how far it went.

Warning signs for India if this partnership gets going though

Yawn
World Cup in India. Pitches that suit spinners.
This whole fucking thing is a set up. Once the BCCI buy the world test final to India they'll win that too.
India are the death of cricket and they don't give a fuck
-
Lol and the Aussies have picked their English conditions test attack
The guys in charge of Australian cricket are dumb
-
After Aus all out for 199, India have a squeaky bum time chasing at 20/3
Could be a tough chase -
Virat Kohli is the best ODI batsman of all time and i don't think it's close
Averages 57 after 270 innings
Scores a hundred every 5 and a half innings
Passes 50 a little over every 2nd innings
Career strike rate of 94Has scores of 85 and 55* so far this Cup. He's the guy you need to get if you're going to win this tournament

Hard to argue that but I’d love to have seen what Viv Richards could have done with today’s bats, bowling attacks etc.

myth, the modern bowler with their required list of variations is far better at limited overs stuff than ever before.
And that's before you add in the vast improvements in fielding, both on-field and in the time spent on placements. -

The 80s was a who’s who of greats, then again many of them were on Richards own team. The ODI game was still in its infancy.
I think the main point I’m making is Viv could whack it a mile with a comparative toothpick compared to what guys today use which makes the fielding somewhat redundant.
It woulda been fun to watch.
