2023 Cricket World Cup - Other Matches

Whole tournament has been a joke from England. Too many old players who just don’t care that much about this tournament, poor captain without the personality to repeat Morgan’s approach.
Interesting stats on the Wisden podcast, in the 4 years to 2019 we played something like 85+ games of ODI cricket, in the four years to this one, 44. We also used 10 more players in this cycle as our “best players” were rested. We focussed on T20, and won that last year, we haven’t taken ODIs seriously we deserve everything we’re currently getting

4 years to late for us though.
Sigh.

This part is not a big deal as it has been the same for everyone:
in the 4 years to 2019 we played something like 85+ games of ODI cricket, in the four years to this one, 44.
I looked that up in statsguru query yesterday, and everyone has pretty much played 35ish to 45ish in last 4 years except India who have played 60 odd. (I was looking at this as I was interested in how Australia was effected as they cancelled 2 of their ODI series in that cycle, and interested in India as many on this thread accusing them of trying to kill the ODI world cup).
This other part is definitely very relevant:
We also used 10 more players in this cycle as our “best players” were rested.
I was listening to podcast this morning (Final Word), and guy pointed out that only Jason Roy got 'played out of the team' from 2019. Because all of the other first 11 guys were rested continuously. It's hard to get played out of the team if you are never being compared to the competitors for your spot in the same games/series.

I don't want to criticise the ECB on their prioritisation and scheduling, as a test cricket fan from a non-Big3, they are vital, as they tour everywhere and they tour often.
It's hard to fit all 3 in, or prioritise all 3. especially if there are 2 T20WCs in the 4 year cycle.
But, they do need to look at their domestic 50 over comp, which is the victim of the counties v ECB 'battle' over the T20/Hundred. They have 2 T20 comps and the 50-over comp relegated to reserve grade players.

Sums up the sentiment in this thread.
Also of note:
Bizarrely, the tournament reached the halfway stage (24 games) without a match entering the final over to decide the result. The most that a team batting second and winning has been pushed is the four-wicket victory by the hosts over the Black Caps on Monday.

Thing is, as much as I hate the 100 and the lack of county 50 over cricket, it has literally nothing to do with the performance of this squad in this tournament. This squad are underperforming because the players in the squad haven’t bothered to play the 50 over cricket they had access too.
Joe Root said something earlier in the season about ‘I know my 50 over game inside out’ - shame he hasn’t scored any fucking runs then.

Pretty distinct split between the top 4 and the rest, now.
We need to beat the Aussies tonight to give the rest of the field a bit of hope. Even if we don't, it looks like five wins with the best run rate differential will be enough.
May not even come down to run-rate.

England chose to field v India
Hopefully the poms aren’t as shit today. I just want someone to beat India.
I can wait till the play-offs.
Decent start for the poms - Shubman and Kohli cheaply.

India crawling along 78/3 after 21.
Atherton suggesting 270 would be "competitive".
India will do quite well to get to that.
Going by Eng batting of late, 78 might be enough

@bayimports These commentators "targets" are a bit influenced by allegiances.
I reckon 240 will be enough.
Edit: Instantly an Indian commentator agrees with me!
