Having a freindly match before WC against the class of SA could have some fun repercussions
Aren’t they all friendlies? World Cup matches is all that matters. Well that’s what every one said between 1991 and 2011….

They're not playing soccer so no friendlies, it's a test match

@Kiwiwomble agree he seems to have played better recently and why nit puck hin, but I do wonder whether it's an aberration. I guess I am sceptical because even in the games he played well he did have longish patches where he 'reverted to type'.
I tend to disagree because he was pretty active during those patches when he wasn’t doing the big run or scoring or finding his hard shoulder.
His activity level is up at ruck time and for me that is the most promising thing - not the really noticeable stuff
I wasn't talking about the glory runs. What frustrates me the most about SF, and what I reckon he reverted to in patches, was while he may have been busy, he stopped winning the contact. For such a sizable fella it has always been an annoyance for me. It's like he has limited fight in him.

Try telling that jaguares ex ferner that

Will this be a statement for the ABs if they win? Will it affect them more than SA if they lose? Dumb question but I'm thinking of the pysche for the ABs will be impacted more. If SA lose they won't give a phuck and carry on and do some damage but I can't help but feel it might hurt the ABs more if they lose.

I hope we win and I’m sure the players do as well, but I don’t think it means as much to the RWC campaign because that tournament format is so different to a one off test like this.
I think back to 2011 and our final test before the RWC we lost to a pretty mediocre Aussie side. We had already secured the Bledisloe so it wasn’t as significant as the previous match up.

They’re not playing for anything but a friendly though? Usually tri nations etc??

Still think Foster is p1ssing with us over injuries to Frizz and Taylor. Why say Frizz could line up against SA, when initially we were led to believe he wouldn't recover in time for the France game? Or is Foster just doing the dance that everyone else is doing pre tournament? And as earlier suggested Coles is there for the niggle and to take the edge off?
Anyhoo hope Roigard some gets decent game time, and pleased for LJ, he is mobile and I suspect hungry to see some action. -
@reprobate said in All Blacks vs Springboks - Twickenham:
@booboo when the stats say he's knackered to the extent that his performance is worse than the bloke replacing him - which is reasonably similar across most teams, so yeah. Marx is a pain at the breakdown, and particularly Taylor but also Coles are both quick and competent in that area, so I would see them as a decent counter to Marx. That sort of tactical 'match our starter/bench to counter the opposition' is pretty clearly not Foster's thinking though is it? He's doing it against Australia, and I don't think their reserve hooker warrants a tactical selection to counter him.
Perhaps it isn't all that complex.
Maybe Ryan and Foster have developed their A team to play the 80 minutes, which includes the bench, and have simply swapped their best option at 2 with what they see as their next best option at 2.

Who said Frizell could line up against SA?
In the press conference posted above Foz said Frizell and Retallick were recovering ahead of schedule but said it was still not likely they would be ready for France.
-
@KiwiMurph I bow to your superior knowledge sir. Maybe Foster alluded to it in the presser.

Looking forward to this one even if it is disposable. Take the first half bit more seriously before everybody start chopping and changing for the second 40. Pretty strong looking teams named to start but think you may miss Brodie…

Im not a fan of these pre World Cup warm up games. With every passing World Cup it seems there are more and more matches being played in the build up?
Am I imagining it?
Anyway , with the physicality of the modern game and the Russian Roulette that is the modern laws/judiciary I think its a recipe for disaster.
I also think it takes the sheen off the World Cup to a certain extent.
South Africa and NZ could be meeting in the quarter finals in a few weeks. It all seems a bit silly.

Pretty much every other team sport that have a World Cup/Championships have warm up games. I think the teams will say they need game time on the park to get done tuned for the big dance.

I hear ya, but in a sport like this, it just doesn't sit well with me. The group stages are a warm up of sorts...let's face it.
I can understand the NH teams needing it due to their calendar, but the Springboks and Allblacks belting each other a fortnight out from the curtain raiser seems OTT to me.
In saying that I'll be glued to the game later.
