Does it really matter what the actual figure was? The game was clearly huge in Oz. There were two separate watching parties amongst my group of friends, plus I live near a fanhub and it was madness last night. But as both the above posts note who knows what's true regarding ratings.
I have no interest in soccer (mens or womens) so haven't watched a game but the WC has been pretty massive in both Oz and NZ (for the brief time I was there and the two places I visited).
But I will say I'm looking forward to it being over in grumpy old man fashion, there are too many people on my usual walking routes - including the Matildas and a bunch of photographers yesterday.
Yes it does for some, so they can always point to it being bigger than any AFL or NRL grand final, Cathy Freeman 400m, OZ open etc.

Sweden too physical for OZ
Cracking finish
2-0 Sweden
-
Swedes 2 Turnips 0

Sweden take it 2-nil.
Congrats.
Got to tip my hat to the Matildas. Out performed rankings and expectations to my mind.
Have thoughts on the tournament and surrounds but will explore those later.

Not sure I'll see this through. Bit late, soccer, and women's soccer.
But who you got?
I'm kind hoping Ingalund get up.
-
Why is "God save the King" not evocative as "God save the Queen"?
-
Further to my question about corners ...
Why can't the defenders belt it forward? Why do they have to kick it back to the keeper? And why do keepers have spiders on them so that you have to leave them alone?
-
A corner ... am waiting for the inevitable goal ... or not ...

Pointless things in football
- Players raising their arms to « help » the touch judge choose the right side for the throw in.

@Billy-Tell You mean like rugby players always try to tell the ref that they have really scored a try?
