So 7 props with two newbies. Florence and Sititi are both selected.

Fuck me I'm stoked that Malachi made the team, and Tana Tuhakaraina in the WTG. Good looking team tbh

Jimmy Tupou is an interesting one.

Yeah it's pretty interesting. Bumped into him earlier this year, he was coaching Tuakau/Onewhero 1st XV and the school team I coach was playing against them. Didn't realize it was him straight away. Lovely dude, his team went undefeated I'm pretty sure.

From the squad selected today, I've gone with the following for the Chiefs best 23. Is this a stronger or weaker team than last year? I'm going weaker because of the hole Rettalick, Weber and Cane will leave. Still a sound team though.

That backline, especially on a dry track is fire.

    Chiefs Top 23:

    1. A Ross
    2. S Taukei’aho
    3. G Dyer
    4. T Vaa’i
    5. J Lord
    6. S Finau
    7. K Boshier
    8. L Jacobsen
    9. C Ratima
    10. D McKenzie
    11. E Nanai-Seturo
    12. Q Tupaea
    13. A Leinert-Brown
    14. E Narawa
    15. S Stevenson
    16. T Thompson
    17. O Norris
    18. R O’Neill
    19. N Ah Koui
    20. T Florence
    21. X Roe
    22. J Ioane
    23. R Poihipi

    IN:
    Reuben O’Neill

    Wallace Sititi
    Malachi Wrampling-Alec
    Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi
    Kaleb Trask
    Daniel Rona
    Liam Coombes-Fabling

    OUT:

Angus Ta’avao
    Atunaisa Moli
    Brodie Retallick
    Laghlan McWhannell
    Sam Cane (2024 only)
    Pita Gus Sowakula
    Brad Weber
    Bryn Gatland
    Rivez Reihana
    Alex Nankivell
    Ngantugane Punivai

@Bovidae the Ins are definitely not as strong as the Outs.

Yeah, I am surprised to see him in the main squad so soon but he is a beast for a 19 year old.

That's going to be the situation when you lose centurions like Retallick, Weber and Cane.

They've addressed the imbalance of the 2023 squad which had too many locks/1st 5s and not enough openside cover, and largely promoted from within. Happy with that.

@Bovidae not saying it's a bad squad by any means, just the experience lost will be felt for sure. Good opportunity for others to put their hand up though.

@Canes4life That 23 isn't far off what I think will be selected. The no.22 and 23 could be more changeable.

I can also see Parker on the bench to be used like PGS was. Jacobson would move to 7 to finish the game.

happy with that squad . only thing would be lack of depth on wing if our top back 3 have go down. would imagine wrapling could be a option , but would really like him to get a good go at 12

Cody Vai might be a young player that moves back to 15s sooner rather than later to provide more depth on the wing. It will be interesting to see who the NDC players are.

Looking at the 5 extra players named, the inclusion of Lennox suggests Roe's injury late in the NPC season might be a problem. The other players make sense to cover ABs who will miss the start of pre-season.

Happy to Malachi wrampling there big unit with pace he's got potential, Tom Florence is a fantastic pickup I like his running game overall, coombes fabling is a midget but he is quite elusive he will add depth I was a little dissapointed by malimali seems big and fast but wasn't consistent overall I believe we will compete for the title if injuries remain minimal

Best squad by far. They are clear favourites for the title IMHO.

@Bovidae who are the 5 in wtg? Can't find anywhere. Lennox Jacomb and Tuhakaraina and?? Pleased Anderson has a gig in Aussie. Ah Sue lost his mojo at throw ins but thought he might make MP. Is Veveni Lasaqa named anywhere?

    If you are lazy:

    399832120_805935128209390_496254999439330126_n.jpg

    A lock/loose forward, 1st 5, halfback, hooker and centre/winger.

There are usually others involved in the pre-Xmas training.
