I woke up this morning, saw the headline about Bairstow and thought 'here we go'. Loaded up the clip expecting to see something heinous, unsportsmanlike, sneaky. Healy kicking off the bails type shit.
This came up on my FB feed in response to someone calling Oz "cheats" and going against the spirit of cricket.

Absolute cracking selection of posts this morning - almost 100% of them entirely predictable:
- Whinging about whinging poms
- Trawls through twitter to find obscure references to things which "prove" hypocrisy
- Link to a betoota article
- References to the great cricket robbery of 2019
This was the only thing I didn't see coming ....

Can't believe im saying this
but OZ definitely in the right here.
Bairstow, what a fucking muppet. Every age grade kid playing cricket knows STAY IN YOUR FUCKING CREASE!! until the ball is dead/no longer in play.
What the fuck was he thinking? and what the fuck did he think would happen.Who are you and what have you done with @virgil.
Odd to see to many backing the Aussies after an act of sporting shithousery. Puts a bit of fire in the rest of the Ashes though (which I now agree, the Poms may well lose 5-0).

Nothing new. Exactly the same thing happened in 1882 apparently when WG Grace ran out Australia's Sammy Jones in the same way. Of course we didn't have Twitter or The Fern back then to enlighten and entertain us...
On a more serious note, Cricket has left me cold over the last few years. Have tried to get back into it but tended to switch off after a while. This series though has been good to watch and dip in and out of. Maybe not a classic like '05, but pretty damn good so far.

Nothing odd about it at all. If there’s one thing kiwis hate more than a cheating Aussie ( if you can even call it that ) it’s a whinging Pom and by crikey there’s been a lot of that.

I’m the opposite. Good Test cricket is the best form of the game by absolute far.
Couldn’t give two shits about the IPL or big bash or whatever……
Not TOO concerned about the upcoming 50 over tourney either but will be cheering on the mighty Scots who prevented the Windies from even qualifying.

To digress from the Ashes, the eight year old version of me would be in absolute disbelief that the team in front of him with Richards, Garner, Marshall, Greenidge et al would ever have to qualify to play in a CWC, let alone fail to qualify altogether...

I'm a kiwi, don't tell me what I think.
I didn't say cheating, and frankly I'm not sure any on the forum actually did. I said shithousery, which it is.
The idea that in the reverse our general fanbase or media would be acting any different is simply ludicrous.

I wasn’t and I was referring to the cliche of “cheating Aussies” ( even the underarm incident wasn’t actually cheating )
Shithousery ? On the VERY low end compared to other incidents. Bairstow was out of his crease so deserved to get out for such carelessness.
If it was Bairstow getting Carey out who knows what would happen and how people would react. But it wasn’t, so we don’t know.

Mate, it's shithousery, unequivocally. Doesn't mean it's wrong, or out of the spirit of the sport (whatever that means). But it was a non cricket way of getting somebody out. Crime. Time. I would feel pretty shitty about the Black Caps doing that to somebody, but maybe thats just me.

Ok that was poorly written by me. I mean in the situation of the Aussies doing the same to the Black Caps. You can deny or say we'll ever know, but that view is for those that believe the earth is flat.

Well, Aussies just have to say a couple of rude words on the pitch for kiwis to get up in arms so we know the answer there.
If Bairstow was the one who got Carey and Australia whinged you can bet the press would have a go, quite rightly.
BUT…..the poms are the ones doing it right now so they’re the ones that the neutrals are having a go at.
Basically fickle followers without too much skin in the game taking offence that a couple of kiwis are griping too much and deciding to back Australia as a result.

Que?
I can’t explain it any clearer than that.

lol Would "We're sorry Bairstow is an idiot" do it?
"It is a shame when something like this happens to
spoil it alla possible England win"Have a look at your mates Broad and Robinson carrying on like a pair of flogs, Geoffrey. After that we can have a chat about the spirit of the game.

@Rapido out of the game for a long time so obviously no aware of "what constitutes a catch" but the guy had control, the ball was not in his finger tips and slipping out of his hands, you could see white knuckles suggesting a firm grip so he just used his the ball as balance hitting the ground. Maybe the rules are stupid because as Ponting suggested how quickly is a ball tossed in the air after other catches. Should there be a catch and release time?

Well you’re making no sense to me at all.
But my care factor is gone.
