    This is juicy play tho. Bit of controversy, bit of heat. Bit of chat.

    Off to bed. Well done England - despite the controversy, rubbish bowling from Australia at points instead of going back to basics

    @junior said in Ashes 2023:

    @NTA said in Ashes 2023:

    Wow. That's a big call.

    I mean, starc's catch last night was overruled based on the laws. So I guess ... Wow

    Shouldn't be controversial at all. As Athens just said, nothing to complain about at all - it was just a dozy bit of play from Bairstow.

    Yeah, as Strauss said of the Starc catch, either way it was a sloppy bit of fielding from Starc. Same with Bairstow, a dopey moment.

    Lunch time pundits all saying Bairstow in the wrong, simple as that.

    Top tier play to win at all costs, gotta do the basics.

    Crowd reaction would be the same world over. Anybody suggesting SCG / MCG / Eden Park would be better is 100% full of shit snd they know it.

    Aussies walking through The Long Room was something else!!

    Cripes what a session of cricket.

    Was expecting an adjustment from the Aus bowling at the end but nope they kept dishing it up and Stokes impressively kept punishing them.

    Smith catches better with 1 hand than 2 hands. That's a poor drop.

    Forget what I said earlier, I want stokes to score 100 of the last 114 needed in what would arguably be the greatest innings of all time

    I'm enjoying the shithousery of Broad purposefully staying in his crease an exaggerated length of time and then checking with the square leg umpire.

    This is phenomenal to watch.

    I get the short ball tactics, but there’s good short and bad short.

    If Stokes wins this for England I fully expect King Chuck to walk on to Lords and knight the man.

    @KiwiMurph that last one was about a foot over his head and Broad is a tall man! A couple of glares

    Terrible shot by Stokes. Not sure what he was trying there.

    Good test, good win.

    Spicy day 5, bit of everything, including verbal in the long room of all places!

    Stokes with yet another big innings on a big occasion. He's a fucking good player who gets better the higher the stakes.

    England had every chance to win this, but weren't good enough when it mattered.

    @MajorRage

    It was pure sloppiness by Bairstow. He was almost wandering out of his crease before Carey caught it. The idea that Oz should have withdrawn the appeal and not doing so almost cost them the match (BBC Cricket chief correspondent) is pure fantasy

    Some funny heat of the moment comments in the aftermath from Stokes and McCullum. Stokes didn't mind too much the manner in which he won the World Cup at the same venue. And McCullum had form for some interesting dismissals himself (Murali).

    The MCG or Eden Park would have been no better than Lords, but the uniqueness of also walking through the Long Room probably didn't help today. Three Lords Members have been suspended.
