Ashes 2023

Aus on top currently but Cam Green keeping us in the hunt. How many NBs?
Great catch by Smith to get rid of Root. I thought for a moment he might have grassed it, and it was close, but in the end a fair catch.

Listening to the expert comms today, specifically Vaughan and Tuffers, it was a bit of a wank fest about how things should be done. It’s like their agenda has been waiting for the moment that they could say “I told you so “. One moment they are crapping on about England throwing it away, the next praising Aus for their tactical approach with the short stuff.
OK guys, Aus on top at that time but make up your mind about why.

With Lyon out we will find this match and series difficult to win.
I think it might have toasted this match for the fourth innings, but with the rest of the series in mind I though Todd Murphy looked good in India. While acknowledging the spin friendly conditions, from memory he bowled better than Lyon.

@NTA
He will be a loss for sure. He immediately set into a grove bowling early in the match, but I think you are being overly pessimistic. Thus far it seems England will immediately push the self-destruct as soon as they get into a position of strength. All part of BazBen's cunning plan I guess.
At least Lyon got his hundred consecutive tests.
It did look bad but it's not confirmed he's out is it?

Overall a good fightback by England. The Australian tail didn't wag very much from what I saw before falling asleep, and the wickets the English did lose sounded more like self destruction against the short ball. No Lyon, plus Starc sounds like he had one of the more erratic days with his radar...

It's going to be such a good series, the teams are so evenly matched.
Lyon is a major blow. He's just a consistent presence and he's been in real form. Murphy is a good backup but he's a rookie.
No idea how this match ends. You could convince me of all three results, though bowling out England in the 4th innings looks much harder without Lyon.

Not sure i agree. Australia have the superior side.

I'm actually watching cricket for the first time in ages. The Oz commentator (Ponting?) is bloody brilliant.

He's been very good and much more likeable as a comms man than as a player.

Openers marginally better, though with Warner living on his rep more these days.
Middle order? Well I'm quite happy with ours - would be happy with Aus' lot too though.
Keeper. Purely in that role, Carey is a step or two up from Bairstow.
Bowling. Aus have much more of the X factor and we are a bit too "samey" I'd take Aus' attack over ours.
Fielding? In this series so far Aus have been good more often than we have, though recently we've been pretty good.Overall I don't think there is too much difference in the teams but with Aus slightly more balanced.
Caveat: As a player I was limited to being an attacking No11 batsman and a specialist long on fielder.
