Cricket doesn't do much for me anymore, but have to admit enjoyed that last day. Might even follow the Lord's Test more closely as this series has all the elements of 2005.
And Ollie Roberson & McCullum seem to like being hostages to fortune:
Robinson revealed that, so buoyant were England after the two-wicket defeat at 7.21pm on day five, the head coach Brendon McCullum said it felt like a victory.
“Baz said it after the game, ‘It feels like we’ve won, lads’. We’ve entertained the world, and we’ve put the Aussies on the back foot. For him to say that after a loss is quite significant for us.
“We were surprised to see Australia so defensive from ball one. You just don’t see the Australians cautious and on the back foot like that. As soon as we saw the field for that first over, we felt like we had a hold on them.
“And then came that first shot from Zak Crawley. Broady [Stuart Broad] said it’s his favourite ever Ashes moment. The noise, the sound, the crowd, it was just amazing to witness, and the roar in the dressing room was so loud, you’d have thought we’d won the series already.

"This is an Ashes series. It is a big deal," Anderson wrote in his column in The Telegraph. "When you play on a flat pitch like the one at Edgbaston and take a wicket, a bit more emotion does come out because you have worked extra hard for it.
"That pitch was like kryptonite for me. There was not much swing, no reverse swing, no seam movement, no bounce and no pace. I've tried over the years to hone my skills so I can bowl in any conditions but everything I tried made no difference. I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle. It's a long series and hopefully, I can contribute at some point, but if all the pitches are like that I'm done in the Ashes series."

Some of the English comments have been incredible to read. Ollie Robinson's Wisden article is an all-timer. This part merits a mention:
Baz spoke first. He always goes first when we lose. He just said, “Lads, I’m immensely proud of the efforts that you’ve put in, we’ve made the game what it was. We were so close to pulling off an unbelievable victory. We played all the cricket in the game. If it wasn’t for us, the Australians wouldn’t have even had a chance to win.
If it wasn't for England, Australia couldn't have won. It's an odd way to look at it, even if I kind of get what he's trying to say. But he goes on:
We were surprised by how defensive Australia were and how unwilling they were to go toe-to-toe with us. Obviously it’s worked for them this Test match. But we feel that with the way they’re playing at the moment, a pitch with a bit more movement would benefit us hugely. Baz said it after the game, “It feels like we’ve won, lads.” We’ve entertained the world, and we’ve put the Aussies on the back foot.
It's funny they see Australia's unwillingness to also play Bazball as some sort of failure. To me it's actually why we won. England WANT you to play Bazball, to keep the fields up, to try and make it a sprint race. They didn't take the bait and in the end it worked for them.
Of course it sounds weird because they won it, but I think if they’re honest, Australia will look at themselves and realise they need to change their approach to keep up with how we’re going to play. If there’s any movement in the pitch at Lord’s, the way we’re playing compared to them is going to benefit us hugely.
Hang on, the ECB ordered the flat deck but now you want a green top?
I'd think Cummins, Hazelwood and Boland would go pretty well on a green top too...
I enjoy the opinion, better than the cliches etc etc. But if an Aussie cricketer wrote an article like that after a loss I'd cringe pretty hard.

Christ on a bike it must be embarassing representing your country with that sort of bullshit written.
Personally I reckon England pretty much played the best they will and it’s all downhill particularly given the likelihood of Smith and Marnus both failing again are virtually nil.

I think its time to go and drink warm beer, sit under the clouds and just watch the amazing Australians now.

If there’s any movement in the pitch at Lord’s, the way we’re playing compared to them is going to have no benefit to anybody, because we are that far behind Australia. The most awesomest cricket team in the history of the sport. God I loved Warney, what an incredible talent.
