I would find this a bit suss? I agree about taking player off, but there is no way Dr or Reds medical staff wou;d say ok ref, we'll take him off and risk permanent injury. I will be mightily interested to see if any of it true.
I would of thought for 1 they would of cited themselves, and 2 medical staff would of said f*** off.

I find it very hard to believe a ref holds that much sway over a competent medic. You'd just turn around and tell the ref to fuck off, we're waiting for the stretcher.

    Smells like losing

@Bones And supposedly they even then made him walk off with a broken neck?? More I think about it, more it sounds a wind up

Really enjoyed that game as a neutral. Both teams left it all out there on the field, and it was good to see the intensity ramped up a few notches from earlier rounds. Landers should have played that way from the get-go. Renton, Harmon and Burns were huge. Renton my MOTM was into everything. Shame Burns is moving offshore next season, felt he has only just clicked with the team and comp ethos, and brings a real point of difference. Good to see the team being driven around the field decisively for a change. Moving forward the Landers hopefully will be scouting for another specialist 10. Hunt is better at 15, he is so obviously not a 10. Agree with comments above about Harmon being the best 7 in NZ.

Not sure what they can achieve by complaining to the Rugby Union Players’ Association, but they're complaining about mulitple incidents now where they think there should have been a card/citing and the way Connor Vest "had to" walk off the field.

sure, but straight away you can see a mitigating factor in how low o'conner is crouched to take the tackle, during the game i think that might get a yellow, how does a yellow work in a siting?

@Kiwiwomble The equivalent of a yellow card is a Citing Commissioner warning.

    @Stargazer thats probably fair

i think one of the biggest things that came out of that game for me....nareki putting in loads of tackles (where the best place to find out how many) and i felt like every single one of them was waist/thigh and he generally put his target on his arse every single time. I know hes not super tall and so its easier but he showed you can put in dominant tackles whilst going low

Super Rugby Pacific refereeing officials believe there was indeed foul play by the Highlanders in the tackle which broke the neck of Reds lock Connor Vest, but that it wasn’t Shannon Frizell at fault, and no yellow card was warranted.

Damn, Aussies trying to do us a solid by getting Frizell banned but the bloody refs protecting him like they're the judiciary.

@Kiwiwomble that isn't a mitigating factor is it? It's a sudden change it height, e.g. if he suddenly slipped. JOC never changed his height.

You can't just say 'dude wasn't standing up straight so I'm allowed to shoulder him in the head'. That be dumb.

I actually think with that one it just looks bad from that angle and primary contact was the chest. But let's not start pretending the reffing in SR has been anywhere near competent or safe.

@Derpus i feel he's crouched in his last stride anticipating the impact so i would say it was a late change in height, but its not a hill im going to die on as burns could and should have gone lower as nareki managed to do so often in that game

@Bovidae pretty much how I saw it, and I happy that Wilson has been called out for his bullshit, the Refs mike wasn't turned off, and I never at any stage heard him tell them to hurry up and get Vest off.

That Burns tackle is a straight red. No arms, force, not lowering.

TMO should never ref first class rugby again.

I don't see a single quote admitting fault. Quality Stuff journalism again.
