@canefan the list of players that command that kind of respect seems to be dwindling, everyone seems to some question marks
At least Scooter appears to command his own spot in the team now
Now? Unless he's Fozzie's nailed on 6 then he doesn't command his own spot now.
He started every test that he was available for last year. Only come off the bench twice in the last 2 years.
Regardless, do you think he starts ahead of one of Whitelock/Retallick if they're both fit this year?
Nope. It is a three-pronged beast. The step down after these guys is too big at the very top.
Scooter is most certainly a squad member but it can't be as a 6. We need him to be the bench/backup lock as well. He can cover 6 in times of injury.
We still need to nail down a starting 6. -
a few more questions still to be answered
who will replace Gilbert Enoka as the mental skills coach, will longtime All Blacks manager (since 2004) Darren Shand stay on post 2023?

Why would he need a mental skills coach?
Hasn't Robertson got a unique and outstanding ability to manage & breed mental toughness into his players - especially in knock-out games or finals - which is why he's so successful?

Why would we need a mental skills coach?
because most teams do? even our SR franchises have them

@Daffy-Jaffy Rassie is a genius. Step gently aside after winning so you’re not directly in the line but still practically running the show, then have a crack at another term 4 years later.

Kind of like Putin and Medvedev.

Shit, we have had since post-2017 to find one, and we are still looking.
Probably one position where we need a different test player to all the Super teams. It hasn't been for want of trying but the cattle either won't or cant get into test mode.
Plenty of candidates that have almost the full set of attributes but all have fallen over in one or two. -

Perfect Razor approached him so good move.
Maybe Foster could have done with a mentor or maybe that was a lost cause.
Where does the 'Razor approached him" bit come from or are you just joking?
Schmidt was basically employed as Foster's mentor. This type of role just wasn't around so he was put in the direct staff.
Smith will be across both ABs and BFs.
-
It comes from knowing it was going to happen and how.
It was part of the coaching interview process
Razor had him in a role, and NZR wanted to keep him involved with the Black ferns as well so it had to be worked through.
A couple of us on the fern have given enough hints Smith was to be involved ever since Razor was appointed. -

A couple of us on the fern have given enough hints Smith was to be involved ever since Razor was appointed. So it was a mutual desire (Razor and NZR) and something being worked on anyway (for BFs). That's what I expected.
I guess that if you want to spin it as Razor approached him, like it was all his great idea then fine. -
@Old-Samurai-Jack yep, I couldnt give a rats if Razor approached Smith or if NZR told Razor he had Smith as his mentor, either way, it's a win!
-
@Crucial You sound a bit butthurt that Razor got the head coach gig with all your comments about him in this thread since his appointment. Razor knows Smith well. Why is it so hard for you to believe that Razor asked for him to be in that role? Who knows; maybe that's where it started, and NZR decided to extend that role to the Black Ferns. Does it really matter?

Not butthurt at all. I truly hope he does a good job.
I commented on a comment that had no verified support.
What I have always done is try to temper the 'Razor is the Saviour and walks on water' stuff.
Give the bloke a chance to see how he goes in international rugby. It is a different world to planning and executing a long comp, the tolerances for accepted performances are much much less and the problems that NZ rugby have are much more than having a fat guy in charge.
If Razor and Smith worked this out and approached NZR then great. I just haven't seen any evidence of that backed up.
Given the amount of people that claim they know exactly what has been said and done between coaches and employers on this thread there must be one hell of grapevine and a lot of loose lips in Canterbury.
