Rebels v Hurricanes

Yeah Ardie just getting fired up protecting his big bro. Probably a good game to have early in the season as it will build character.

It's Derpus.

Could the Australian coverage make more of an issue of a non-event?

I was actually impressed by their constraint.
Sure - they kept coming back to it, but it was always with the commentators saying "out of character".
And yeah - my view:- started off, trying to calm his team down
- pulled an opposition player out of a fracas... (in this day and age.. wise? was the force wise, or necessitated? ?)
- given a YC... as a repeat offence? This decision - I don't know. Seems.. flawed, counter-productive possibly.
- on his walk-off, he get's given a spray. He responds. VERY unwisely. I'd be very interested in hearing what he heard.
- BUT - in this era - he should have been able to keep his cool. If some fluffybunny had made reference to his mother, wife, daughter, whatever... it's part of the job now. But... I'd like to know what was said to get him to respond like that.
-
@Kruse Ill advised in the professional era, but the moralising about it is ludicrous. It's no different to the "I'll snap you like a twig" gesture that happens on every field every weekend. The question was asked and answered and they kept pushing the issue as if he'd shot someone, or misgendered them.
-
@antipodean Fully agreed.
-
@antipodean yeah i too am in shock that the commentary would draw attention to the throat slitting gesture.
Dont these snowflakes know this is rugby?

This was the part that annoyed me. All he did was escalate things and as a captain there was no need for that. Put himself in the hands of the referee and got burnt. Of course Coles was in the middle of the whole thing to start with.
Hopefully lesson learnt for later in the year.
Was an entertaining watch with some good rugby (if loose) and the crowd getting into it post Ardie incident.
Canes seem very reliant on 4-5 of their players but do have players to come back in.

Looked at Mafileo's "yellow" again, and not surprised it was changed into a "red". Diving straight into a player already on the ground. Utter stupidity. It looked like his shoulder made contact with Hardwick's head (it may have been his upper-arm), although not 100% clear from the angle that we saw.
