Not sure how to approach this with being labelled deranged or accused of projecting but these aspects of Akira's game have been noted often by many and various.
No one is saying that the guy isn't a good code player at all, just that these aspects of using upper body strength over leg drive or whole body (in both attack and defence) are what make him less impactful against big, and more accurate, sides. The ones we need to beat. -

@mariner4life And when he starts with Savea you now have two loose forwards who look to hold players up and drive them backwards. Need at least two players who tackle with their shoulder in the loose trio imo.
Just need to watch the game last week to see him doing exactly that. Was just smashing people.

the biggest problem at 6 isn't even who we have to choose from. The biggest problem is the guys locked in to 7 and 8, their strengths and weaknesses, and thus the specific type of player you need to make that trio work.
Solved with Akira, Ardie and Dalton.
i just love how the solution to the ABs not winning is to bring more Blues players in. Players who have won 5/8 of fuck all.
Are you actually John Kirwan?
Instead of crying bias, explain how Cane is playing better than Dalton over the past two years? Not just Blues fans thinking that.
Cane > Dalton on current form.

Said the Chiefs fan (since this all about bias apparently). Tell me more about how Jacobson hasn’t failed at Test level.

i have said repeatedly that DP's performance v ENgland was the best in an AB7 shirt in years
But it takes blinkers to not think Cane is having an enormous season for the Chiefs, contesting the ball more, better in the carry, and still whacking in defence. And he's the captain.

As a Blues fan I agree.
Still the pointy end of the season to go mind you.
It's great for the ABs that Cane is playing so well this year.

Actually, think about Ethan, if we want a smaller 6 that is actually effective we could look at Choat.
Having a storming Super season, and just smashing into everything.
that's just a trifle too stinky
-
i'm just pissed we can't get Hoskins Sotutu, the guy i consider the best all-round loose forward in the country, in to the side

I did see him jog behind the breakdown with his back turned for the MP quick tap try and grab a player a metre out from the line when he could have dropped a shoulder for MPs try in the right corner.
If he is now being more dominant in the tackle then great but we need more than one game against the cellar dwellers to be making that call surely? -

You spent the other day making stuff up about RI, now it’s Akiras turn I see.

Ardie seems to be a shadow of his former self since his send off, maybe it will be Sotutu's year (although I'm not holding my breath).
As for everyone else I like both Papali'i and Cane so happy either way.
Prefer Akira but don't mind Blackadder, Frizell can fuck off and SB is a lock. Otherwise they need to go out of the squad and pick one of Flanders/MMT/Renton.
Ardie and Sotutu are pretty similar 8s so don't mind who gets the nod either based on form. An in form and fit Grace is good too.
PGS is having a better few weeks but we all know how quickly his form can drop. Gardiner goes ok but I still haven't processed the hype about him after that one NZXV game.

In the most recent Aotearoa Rugby Pod there was a question about the ABs having a 6:2 bench due the versatility of the likely starting backline (only having a reserve halfback and midfield back). So similar to SA's bomb squad/front row having a complete set of loose forwards on the bench. As Parsons rightly said, that would only work if you are prepared to sub the starting loose forwards. Ardie is less likely to be subbed based on recent history. So that creates problems with the balance of the loose forwards.
-
@Bovidae it's almost guaranteed they will carry two loose forwards on the bench. Barrett will start at 6 and then move to lock. Cane will get subbed. Savea will play 80.
DP will bench, the guy covering 6 is the "unknown" at this stage.
I reckon you can probably pen in 22 of the 23 that will be named for the knock-outs now.

Asking Ofa to play on the wrong side this year makes me think we are only taking 5 props and an extra loose forward. That would make a 6/2 split more possible too
