I was hoping Lance Morris got a game in one of the tests,He is pretty sharp 150 + km plus bowler.
Another one on the Australian pace bowling assembly line.I think they feel this is an audition for the India series so brought in a spinner*.
It’s crazy to think that it’s almost 10 years ago that Agar made his test debut as a 19 year old and yet he’s only played 5 test matches. Big opportunity for him.
I reckon there is better options around the First class scene than Ashton Agar as a test spinner option,But probably picked on his all rounder ability as he can bat a bit.
To be an allrounder you need to be able to bowl in Test cricket. Might as well ask Smith to roll the arm over.
I'd back Smith, Marnus & Head in short spells to get more wickets than Agar in the same amount of overs. Agar can probably keep the scoring down better

If this was the case Mark Craig, Mitch Santner and Michael Bracewell would have never been capped at test level.
Could add Ish Sodhi to this bunch too.

We're talking about Australians, for which there's considerable depth in playing stocks.

…..and I’m talking about the reigning WORLD TEST CHAMPIONS!!!!!
( bloody hell doesn’t that seem like a lifetime ago )

They should stick with Mitch Swepson a genuine big turner of the ball, good variation and great to have a LS option if you want a genuine spinner.
A No.11 bunny with the bat though. And edit I am a bit biased a great bloke too.
Always a great to have a cricket chat with. -
That was a bullshit call on the catch given soft signal was out, he had his fingers under it
-
batting first. rain around, shit light
And Aus are still 226/2 and rattling along at more than 3 an over
Men against boys.
-
and goes straight away.
He's now 4th all time for runs for Aus behind 3 absolute legends. Smith is an absolute marvel.
358/3

I should probably give this a serious answer.
As @mariner4life says the only three above him are all legends.
The stats man in me loves cricket numbers, it’s freakish to think that a guy as great as Border was scored three LESS centuries than Smith and had over 100 innings more than he did ! Border was the guy that every kiwi hated ( in a good way ) when he played because of his tenacity and grit and lynchpin qualities. Sure you can argue he would have faced better bowling in his day ( I agree ) but Smith has faced some goodies too and his numbers are fucken otherworldly to be honest.
Ricky Ponting touched a 60 average for awhile there but he played on too long and it dipped towards the end. I wonder if Smith will end up the same ?

I can see everyone has given up talking about the game, which is understandable.
I wonder if Australia should declare now. I reckon they've probably got enough for an innings victory. With some inclement weather around I don't think they should risk batting on for long.

They’ll want to give the Waj a shot at a double hundred then they will I reckon.
It’s only South Africa, plenty of time to get them out twice.

Not going to be much play this morning, judging by the radar. Coming in from the SE
