Carey is such an enormous upgrade on Paine
(incidentally, where does a bog average cricketer with 35 tests get the unmitigated gall to release a book?)
All the more reason to get a book deal these days.
Average cricketer that could keep a bit. Made captain in controversial circumstances and not seen as a clear successor even from his most ardent fans. Struggled to stake his claim on the game, team struggles, constant whispers around camp of players “more deserving” being unhappy, and then throw in a sex scandal.
Will be in the $4.99 shelf of all good bookstores near you

Agar has never looked like a Test bowler. Although the Saffa’s will probably make him look good if he plays
Renshaw might return after a few years out of the side. Thought Handscomb would’ve been a better pick because he’d be useful on the upcoming Indian tour

Makes you feel sorry for Bancroft getting shat on for Sandpapergate.

And so the reason for the intensive, summer-long redemption of David Warner PR campaign is revealed.
He's getting a commentary gig on Fox Sports. As if you needed another reason to watch the Ch7 coverage over the Fox coverage.
Oh, and CA signed a big new broadcast deal.

cynically, any link to the ongoing coverup of the rest of the team involved in Sandpapergate? Or am I just being too pessimistic

Another Sydney Test where the series is decided, but the advantage of the World Test Championship is that plenty remains at stake. For Australia they can, barring points deductions, secure a place in June's final with victory at the SCG while South Africa need to win to keep their now slim hopes alive.

Aussie choosing to bat first (or not bat last). Two spinners

South Africa

I was hoping Lance Morris got a game in one of the tests,He is pretty sharp 150 + km plus bowler.
Another one on the Australian pace bowling assembly line.I agree. Also Agar has failed in his previous chances and doesn't have a great SS record. 3 pace, Lyon plus multiple part time spinners was what I was expecting

Another one on the Australian pace bowling assembly line.I think they feel this is an audition for the India series so brought in a spinner*.
It’s crazy to think that it’s almost 10 years ago that Agar made his test debut as a 19 year old and yet he’s only played 5 test matches. Big opportunity for him.

Balance looks a lot worse without Green
yeah, that team would look a lot better with another seam bowler.

I don't see a compelling argument based on his first class record to justify selection.

I reckon there is better options around the First class scene than Ashton Agar as a test spinner option,But probably picked on his all rounder ability as he can bat a bit.

Yep agree I don't really rate him as a test spinner better options around.Probably selected as he can hold a bat.
