Doddie Weir RIP

@Victor-Meldrew said in RIP 2022:
Two tries against the ABs in the quarter final in 95 as well. Brilliant.
Played in that magical 1996 Scotland-AB game at Carisbrook as well. Deserves a mention.
He’ll be remembered as a character mainly but he was also a really, really good player.
This is a really nice obituary.
Sad to think that Scotlands two best forwards of the 90s aren’t with us anymore.

That woulda been 1990. He was a midweeker then if memory serves. Skinny as fuck initially even for that era !
Less said about the beer the better.

What kind of beer do you usually have here?
Oh, we got both kinds. We got Red AND Brown! -

Oh, we got both kinds. We got Red AND Brown!……and to be fair it’s certainly not like Scotland is known for it’s wonderful beer……
Or weather/food/people/humour…….I could go on.

I do like a good 80 Shilling or Wee Heavy. It's when they try to make non Scottish styles that the pish is pish.
And the weather is great (on average two days a year) -

You have to look for it just like most places. Judging Scottish beer on Tennants Lager or scottish food on deep fried Mars bars wont give you the full picture.
Some of the best food in the UK comes from Scotland but as a 'cuisine' it can be on the dour side.
Like anyway now there is a craft beer scene (I can recommend most stuff from Black Isle) and a mass produced 'craft' scene (Brewpunk) but the traditional old cask ales still exist among the rubbish as well. A handpulled wee heavy easily competes with fresh english ales. -
Due to my heritage the boys ( ie ex wife ) will buy me a Scotch Ale on my birthday/Father’s Day/Xmas.
They can be pretty good.
It is easy to judge a country on their mass produced shite beer but then I realise I come from a place that produces Tui and the beers that the recently departed D Weir is holding in the pic, so you know, glasshouses and all of that……
-
Also, all those shit beers were our starter beers when we were young, they were an easy way to get shitfaced cheaply.
Now we're all fucking hipsters/beer snobs and can afford our fancy expensive craft beers, meanwhile we hang out on the Fern trying to make out we aren't.

Is it that hard to keep the thread about the death of a much loved rugby player who was also such a prominent advocate for curing MND to discussing his life and times and not various posters' opinions about Scottish or craft beer?
Absolutely no issue with MN5's photo of Doddie with the Lion Brown, I hasten to add.
