Feel a little sad tbh, she was a great lady the epitome of someone who simply did their duty - often at times under the most intense scrutiny one could face. A throwback to the days where people would simply do what was needed to be done without fuss or complaint.

She was grace and class and hard working, right to the end, a remarkable woman.

My old Mum is in tears. This is pretty huge.

Understandably. Role models don't come much bigger for that generation I'd imagine.

Mrs TA was a bit upset, then got the news today that a family friend passed away and has since, as they say "lost it".

A chance that the Bledisloe Cup Test will clash with the funeral. It might not go ahead.

Chance maybe but it is usually about 10 days of mourning before funeral so we should be OK

Followed by another 10 days of mourning

While 96 was getting on in age, that death comes for us all, that there'd been a couple of signs, and that I knew it would overall be a big occasion... I've been a bit surprised at how sad I've felt during the day. I've heard a few others say similar this afternoon too.

The second Elizabethan Golden Age comes to an end.

I thank her for her years of unstinting service. Queen Elizabeth has more than earned her rest.

    RIP Your Majesty.

@booboo It's amazing how many of the 'leaders' age amongst the kids at school won't do anything now unless there is 'payment' - service as a goal is dying badly

Boris may be hated by many, but this is as a good a statement as you'll see, anywhere.

    Gee that's really well put.

FYI - I didn't agree 100% withthe statement by Keating I posted earlier, but I liked it because he was so anti Monarchy but could see the awesomeness that she was.

I thought Trump spoke surprisingly well too:

"Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her””

I see some on "Irish Twitter" are having a field day.

I'm well aware of what the monarchy stand for to some in the Republic, but I find the revelry of QE2's death distasteful. I know we have some Irish posters on here, so before they think I am tarring all Irish people with the same brush, I am not.

    Clarkson knows:

    Team

As mentioned this thread is for respectful remembrance of the Queen.

Thus I have moved some of the recent discussion to the tabloid section.

    Some memorable quotes

    On leadership:
"I know of no single formula for success, but over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together."

    On courage:
"When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future."

    On grief:
"Grief is the price we pay for love."

“I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else, I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.”

    And, of course

I myself prefer my New Zealand eggs for breakfast.

I frequent a UK based football forum and I was surprised to read a few quite uncharitable posts from people regarding the postponement of EPL games, and regarding the late Queen herself. Quite at odds from the example she always seemed to strive to set. I'd be interested if you could anyone who had a bad word to say about her after an actual one on one meet

I’m of the belief that death is celebrated not mourned

    Play

    And enjoy it

    And celebrate

    @MiketheSnow

I'm with you Mike. The old question "what do you think she would have wanted" seems pertinent. I just can't imagine she'd have wanted people to sit around mourning for 10 days and not enjoying life
