@Kiwiwomble I don't think the NZ rugby public was particularly pissed off at not winning in 2019 - not in the "it's been 20 fucking years and now it's four more!!!" mode, anyway. I don't think Hansen and Fozzie would have wondered whether they could live in NZ after the loss.
Significantly more vitriol this year, I think.
Fozzie has now had his arse kicked and will know an equally severe one is coming if he falls short next year.
I actually don't think we have been more underdogs going into a WC. Anyone who is watching would realise that France would have to be favourites, followed by Irish. Really believe that not sure why we keep assuming we should be favouritesto win the thing. We are not behind France and Ireland because we are poor, but because they are bloody good teams in my opinion.
Not sure we haven't been poor,I think we have over the last 2 1/2 years.
Yep mate, but I seem to recall ebverytime we go through a slump of any kind, we tend to say it's us, and perhaps don't look at how good other teams are. Not sure if you remember but basically the French team that is playing now easily won the U20 comp in 2016 or 17, and we were knocked out at Qfs or something, can't remember the year, think it was Razor's second year as coach? Not saying we haven't been well off pace, but you look at super rugby last few years very very ordinary I think, but even that I not sure about as it been so f***ed up with covid etc. But you probably pretty right, we need some real good world class players coming through pretty badly.
The French U20 team, of which several players are now in their senior squad, beat our NZ U20 in the JWC semi-finals in 2018. France won the last two (pre-covid) tournaments (2018 and 2019). Several of those players already played in the Top 14 prior to playing in that U20 team.
Edited to add that of that 2018 NZ U20 team, Sotutu, Clarke and L Fainga'anuku are now All Blacks. (Will Jordan wasn't in that NZ U20 squad due to injury). Other players who (I think) have the potential to become All Blacks are Bailyn Sullivan and Devan Flanders.
It’s a bit scary what the frogs are building , becoming a powerhouse from grassroots level up
Recognised by most a few years back. I guess that the hope was that like many things France eventually someone will become disagreeable and everything will implode.
I don't mind France having another 'golden era'. Rugby was great when they were strong and their style is way better than having a turgid England or kick chase SA dominating. -

I'd want Samoa, but, if it has to be a tier 1 country and a NH country then yep I'd like to see France win it if we don't.

@Nepia given they have been losing finalists 3 times haven't they?
I think so - 87 99 11
should have been there in 95...

Yeah France if anyone, it'd be easier to ignore all of their gloating as I wouldn't even understand it, and anything I did understand would be in a funny French accent.

and, cheese, wine, rich food and culture. Love the French, love France. Would live there if I wasn't scared of becoming Fat Bastard NZZP

France or Wales I could live with.
Unbearable - Ireland, Springboks, Australia

don't worry, unless they skip the QF it's all sorted

Pragmatically speaking an Aussie win would help NZ rugby. Interest in SR pacific would grow etc

and England.
Australia will have the same 24 year gap they used to laugh at us about so fuck them.
England will be on a 20 year gap so they can wait longer.
SA only win every 12 years (95,07,19) so aren't due
France are well overdue.
I think we would make a logical pattern if we won next time.Wales, Ireland, Scotland don't deserve to win. Just because.

That’s far too sensible fella, even though I agree with the principle that the best scenario for NZ rugby improvement and interest is a strong OZ. But I’ll be damned if I see Rennie lead an Aussie team to RWC glory 🤮

Sheesh bro, 12 months out and you already want to #booboo it…

Interesting how many of us chose France, I'm included, though if we are into the very unlikely candidates, I'd prefer Argentina.
For me I don't want the Boks pulling away from us. Couldn't stand Oz winning cos I live here. England nah. Ireland can fck off.

@voodoo when the Argies aren’t playing that cynical rubbish I don’t mind them. But RWC, nah. Can you imagine Jags4real….
Cheika the World Cup winning coach? No thanks

Wales v NZ Final
Wales to win for the first time in 70 years
The stuff of dreams
And delusion
-
In order of worst to least worst...
- England
- Australia / South Africa - I don't know what would be worse between Australia joining us on 3 cups (plus their general Australian-ness) or RSA equally our back-to-back record and overtaking us in cups won
- Ireland - although, if they win it playing the way they did in July I would have to admire them begrudgingly
- Scotland - lol
- France - I know a few too many French people who know SFA about rugby who would enjoy this too much
- Wales
- Argentina
