Black Ferns v Australia I

Tubic is amongst a number of other options for the 1st 5 position. Brazier, Subritky-Nafatali and Maliepo are others. They can't all be selected in the final squad.
I'd pick all of those players, except Maliepo, ahead of Demant at 10, but being the captain, she'll always be picked. A bit like Sam Cane, except that she's better in another position than where she's playing (12).

@Bovidae Interesting, I really like her at 10 because she has the ability and confidence to play flat whilst having the skillset to put other people in to holes. I kind of have her pencilled in as 10 with nobody going close to her for WC. I think we'd see more of Maliepo 10, Demant 12 at Auckland if that was likely because I definitely don't see Maliepo as a 12. Can't see her making it back in to the squad on current FPC form but she'll get her chance to showcase at 10 for Auckland with Demant out.
Brazier didn't set the world on fire for the Volcanix last year but I see her as the second best option. She had a lot of 7s bad habits e.g. taking first step backwards but hopefully Smith can coach that out of her in the short timeframe.
Subrtizky-Nafatili was brought in for her immense talent and skillset but she's constantly injured, with a huge emphasis on strength & conditioning to match the NH, I can't see her making the squad barring injuries.
Tubic has to be in the 15 somewhere, she is our best place kicker by a length & we will need that in tight WC games. -
It's a pity for the crowd attending this test match that the curtain raiser - the FPC match between Canterbury and Manawatū Cyclones - doesn't start half an hour later. I assume they've organised something for the hour in-between both games, but an hour is a long wait.

Well you need to have an hour at least don't you Star? Do FPC play extra time, but more importantly the players will need the ground for warming up. Well that's what I am guessing anyway mate.

How have they organised the ticketing? I assume you need to buy a ticket for the test to be able to go the FPC game? Otherwise, they would need to remove the spectators after the FPC game, which would be counterproductive.
Yes, that's correct. Very cheap tickets compared to All Blacks tests though.

That’s bullshit I reckon and it’s about time the “need” for so much time using the playing ground is pushed back on.
Surely other solutions can be found.
They cope in Sevens ok. -

They cope in Sevens ok.I would suggest it's easier to warm up a 7s team behind goalposts than a test team etc, I was always impressed with Richie McCaw and Dan Carter at Bleisloe I went to in Brisbane, they were out stretching and warming up etc a good 5-10 minutes before other players., Even at local club level, div 1 or 2 etc, the teams are out warming up etc at least 30 minutes before the game.

Why do you need a whole field to warm up? Most grounds have dead ball areas and sidelines and I'm not suggesting that you don't get the whole field at all, just a shorter time. If a bit of thought and pre-planning was put into it the 'old ways' could change and a better product could be sorted for spectators.
I think there is also a case that Sevens need a very decent warm up as they are expected to be running full tilt right from the whistle with explosive movements.
Often they don't use all that time anyway. As the previous game finishes you see players wander out of the tunnel and observe the atmosphere, go back inside and put their boots on, jog out etc etc. It's just a slowed down process that could be adjusted is all I am saying. Punters need to go and have a piss, get some food/drink and get back in time for the start

Don't know why they have a warm up for such a length of time etc, hell when I played I generally found jogging onto field was all that I required (and then needed to get breath back lol) but every team I have watched at any level goes through quite a (too me) complicated warm up, including passing etc. As for players wandering out to have a look, they certainly don't need it for that as that is usuallyas soon as they get to park, and when there is a game on (I have seen it a few times) they just have a look or wander along sideline. I don't in reality think teams should be allowed to warm up in dead ball area as it can interfere with game, if ball gets kicked in goal and test team (23 players plus) are in there, I think too much chance of game being interfered with. While I see where you coming from, I actually don't think there really should be curtainraisers, for all those resons.

Pretty different warm up (focussing on explosive, anaerobic) to XVs but I think you'd have a hard time telling a XVs team they don't need to be running full tilt at kick off.

We all know those fatties that hang back to offer 'deeper' defence or wait for the first scrum
