We did seem to want to hold onto the ball more tonight, but we were so limp with the ball we went nowhere. So often a player caught the ball flat footed and just ran into a wall. The time we did break the D with Jordan it was an inside ball very similar to Ireland. We just look deft of ideas and simply cannot get any go forward. We again struggled to exit our half and most times we kicked back we had no chasers and they simply kicked us back into the corners. We got totally schooled tonight and it was downright embarrassing. If that was the best performance of the year we truly are fucked.

Our long kicking game only comes when we are static, and the player is 10 metres behind ruck, making the chase just about maintaining a defensive line.

Same can be said for Smith's box kicks. Whereas the Boks have chasers competing to get the ball back

What exactly did Ardie say to Gardiner that wound him up so much?

Edit, talking about when BB had just been poleaxed

Be good to know. Foster made the point that the Boks throw bodies in the air. Jumping into the contact zone. But if the defender is doing the same Gardiner ruled it 50 / 50 - the important point is that if you are in the air first you own the space. The other option of the defender is that remain relatively static with the risk the attacker with momentum jumps over the top of them. The ABs did a lot of that when defending.

Maybe we should treat it like a lineout. Get back lift our guy into the air and hold him up. We won nothing in the air apart from red card at the end.

Jumping into the space whilst making no attempt to catch the ball is reckless. It should be penalised. Arendse did in in the first half on J Barrett and got away with it.

If Gardner had rightly penalised him then, it is probable that he wouldn't have launched himself at B Barrett late in the 2nd half.

@stodders you have to win the contact.

I thought ABs did that at times. Problem was, ABs committed too many men to breakdown, so after 2 or 3 phases they were running out of players and Boks were picking them off.

ABs body angles at clearout aren't good enough to clear bodies, so it is taking an extra man to effect it. It doesn't help that refs are allowing players to slow ball down whilst clearly not supporting their bodyweight, but hey, c'est la vie.

Foster was a joke in the press conference.

"Congratulations to Marx on his 50th. Im sure his family is proud too"

Fuck Marx and fuck his family.

Stop trying to be everyones friends all the fucking time.

It is a bit nauseating. Too chummy.

Hansen used to always say how good Bok coaches and players were after his side's had beaten them. I'll bet Rassie and Nienaber are thinking the same about Foster's ABs 😂

What’s the issue with that ?

I don’t see anything wrong with being a decent sportsman, it would sound a lot better coming off a win though.

Maybe ppl just need to see the ABs being a bit grumpy. Like they are hurting. Not towing the PR line

I agree nothing wrong with that. The wrong is the bullshit about small margins, and wee tweaks, improvements, and best game. They're either lying or delusional, and I think foster really believes he's got what it takes despite nothing to back that up as a head coach

Absolutely. He’s sprouted some shit but I think it shows at least some character to congratulate the opposition.

    My two cents.

    Our tight five got munted.
    Cane was completely ineffective
Ardie was a work horse as usual but should be at 7, just make that bloody call already. He’s quite obviously our best player but needs to be at 7.
Ioane did absolutely f all but Frizzel isn’t the answer.
Havili isn’t a 12. Give Jordie a crack there and move Jordan to 15? Or bring in TUJ.
Bring Reece back in on the right.

    So many bloody issues.

Foster’s a fucking joke and Captain Cane needs to go. Until then, the ABs will be continue to be a circus.

To be honest, it doesn't matter what Foster says or does now. It'll be wrong. On a personal level, that sucks.

    Just watching for first time...
At half time... ST and Ardie are the only forwards standing up. SB with some solid tackles too but basically our fwds are getting dominated.. We're very passive on defence and with ball in hand...

Boks loosies and Marx owning us.

havent read back...but to me, that right there seems to be a huge part of the issue.

Somehow, he genuinely believes he is doing good, and that things are on the right track, which is ironic given our players dont seem to have the same level of confidence in themselves and one another....

    All is Black

    Another day, another debacle.

While there were some clear improvements in this test such as the maul defence, the All Blacks still look like a team out of ideas and out of excuses.

You could see that in their rare moments on attack, with a succession of Hail Mary passes going to no one in particular. Again, there appeared to be no game plan and no structure. Again, we witnessed a complete inability to deal with the rush (offside) defence and the high balls.

Yet none of the Springboks’ tactics was surprising. It’s how they beat us last year after all. But we still have no effective response, no ideas, no confidence and absolutely no future under this coaching regime.

The worst thing is that this train-wreck was completely predictable when Foster was shovelled the job with little or no oversight. Of course, he needs to go, but then so does Mark Robinson and the NZR board. Indeed, this horror show could provide a case study for an MBA graduate in how to destroy a brand overnight.

Ultimately, the All Blacks’ directionless and uncharacteristically tentative on-field performances, despite the heroics and heart shown by individual players, are a mirror reflection of the disarray off the field - the Keystone cop head coach, the incompetent CEO and the arrogant and out of touch administrators drinking from a once overflowing trough of riches that has now run dry.

    Awesome Silverlake timing

The value of their shareholding will have diminished so greatly that if won't cost that much when it comes to taking up any buy back options there might be in the contract.

They beat us last year with a last minute penalty and kick at the death. We had better attack last year to put pressure on the Boks. This year we couldn’t put any scoreboard pressure on them allowing them to just settle into their game.

A WR fuck up solution to the endless free access of ancillary staff to the playing area. Now instead of lots of small time wasting breathers, the behemoth players get to have a big breather when they call for it.
