New Zealand Rugby will dispense with its historic timeline of waiting until after the World Cup to determine the next All Blacks coach, and will instead, within the next eight-to-10 weeks, reveal who will be at the helm of the national team in 2024.
Chief executive Mark Robinson has presented a recommendation that the process to find the next All Blacks coach begin this month, and the unprecedented plan will be signed off on February 23 when the board next meets.
NZR has declined to comment on the issue, but incumbent coach Ian Foster has been made aware of his employer’s intention and the rationale, which according to multiple sources, is based on a desire to bring New Zealand into line with the other Tier One nations, the majority of whom will be at the World Cup later this year with certainty around their longer-term coaching plan.
So, too, has the determination been made that an early process will mitigate against candidates being picked off by other international sides as happened in 2019.

@taniwharugby Yeah, to me it reads like he had decided to retire.

I was very surprised when the press entered him back into the conversation to be honest.
Always assumed that this was his swan song. -
NZR going to do the right thing for once.
I'm passionate as ever about NZ rugby but there are large challenges to be faced next year. Last 3-4 years have been diabolical at times -

@Dan54 Is Aaron Webb a future Head coach?
Aaron is a strength and Conditioning coach he has been The Manager of the Academy not a Rugby coach really.
Obviously a pretty switched on fella, and doing great job at Academy if what Mainsbridge is aying sums him up he certainly doing good work. Not all good stuff is done by coaches, there so much behind scenes that make for successful teams!
Quite different skills required I think. -

@Chris just pleases me so much when these fellas get given credit, and just wish people realised how good they are for sport.
Not blowing wind up your backside, but I understand how you do similar with young cricketers over there, it is what keeps the game going at higher level especially. -

-
i want Joseph to be the coach just so i can watch the melts.

@mariner4life Ran into him a couple of times in the Wellington Football Club's Isherwood Lounge where he was enjoying the associated activities surrounding rugby with his Axemen mates when he was living in Kilbirnie. Seemed to be a thoroughly decent down to earth bloke.

I just want the coach announcement to be made, so we can start complaining about something else...

i met him a few times through rugby, and at his pub (playing against him even at his age then was fucking fun, what a unit) as he was mates of mates. Seemed a good rooster
shit. i just googled his age. He seemed old when i played him. turns out he was the same age i was in my last year of prems. I don't feel so bad about the towelling (and verbals) i copped.

You're a thoroughly cruel man.
