All Blacks v Ireland - 1st Test

We had a period against the French where we fucking dominated by using our big ball runners like Samisoni up the middle with pick & go's etc before going wide. Got us right back into the game when we were done for all money, and into a position where we should have won
Yup. Spot on and I can recall that happening in a few other games as well.
But then the players lost a bit of precision, made mistakes and we were on the back-foot again. We need to up our concentration and cut back on the mistakes.

@antipodean do they throw a wild card in there with PGS?
I think Sotutu is our wild card. Get that boy some game time

The BBC reports that -
Second row Iain Henderson has sustained a knee injury and has been ruled out of Ireland's tour of New Zealand.Ulster's captain is set to return home after picking up the injury in training on Saturday.
Very unfortunate. Not a bad player and in this squad would probably be the reserve lock for the test matches as he was in the big 6Ns games.

Ireland’s most powerful lock.

@The-Docter Hey Doc, welcome to the Fern.
In just 9hrs of Ferning you've made a bunch of decent points and about 17 spelling mistakes.
I reckon you'll fit in well around here.

He’s a starter with Ryan in the normal run of things. Was injured at start of 6N. Serious blow for the squad.

Just heard from Ian Smith on SENZ that potentially another 3 players may be out with Covid...

One way to get Sotutu on the park.

Surprising that it's been a decade since Ireland last played in NZ:
Ireland v All Blacks in NZThere's a few AB players that are still around from the 2012 series: Whitelock, Retallick, Smith, Cane and B Barrett
Retallick, Smith, Cane and B Barrett all made their debut during that series

@Duluth shit that is a surprise!

is it though?
No one comes in a RWC year, so that's 2 years out.
The Lions is another one out
2020 and 2021 CovidSo that's 4 tours since. 2 for France, 1 each for England and Wales.

i didn't say the math didn't check out..just i hadn't really thought about it and off the top of my head i might have thought a top team would have come more recently

nah since we switched back to the 3 test series it's spread out heaps. And seems weird because we usually play 3 big teams in November.
And we really seem to love France touring.

The decade before the last visit Ireland were here in 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010
All Blacks have played in Dublin 4 times since the Irish last played in NZ
Covid has had an impact but it seems NH visits are getting less frequent. Don't know what Scotlands problem is.. they haven't been here since 2000

Wasn't that when we would get at least two nations here in June (which we wanted because NZRU got sick of dead rubber 3rd tests. We are nothing if not hugely arrogant)
who organises? Is it by invite? because if it is i imagine the Scots aren't the draw card, they'll end up playing the shit stadiums like Nelson, Napier, and what ever tin shed is in Christchurch. NZRU can't afford it.

Hopefully the new set up will see different teams played more often, I'm not a fan at all of the 3 game tours down here. Yet up north we travel around, sucks

i like it. Especially if we keep getting mid-week games
The geography makes it hard here. Aus and NZ is pretty doable. But through in Argentina and South Africa and it's a little much to ask the Northern teams to country-hop. Edinburgh to Paris is like 900km, or half a Queensland.

@taniwharugby well deserved in my opinion, been very consistent and think he offers more than George bridge

@taniwharugby Telea leapfrogs Bridge.

So the 'talk' this morning is that LF comes in for Jordan, QT is at 12 and SB is at 6.
You have to wonder if this is guesswork from journos or actual knowledge as there's no mention of where Clark fits, who starts at 10, whether AS is ready......

They built a bridge then got over it?
-
Telea is also primarily a right winger, which they are light of in the squad (outside of Reece).

It'll be the same gameplan as 2017, too

wasnt SB at lock with Kaino on that infamous day?
A touch of irony if he would move from lock to 6 against Ireland...his last outing at 6 went well though

Going to be interesting to see how many of these changes have been forced on Foster and co. and how many were planned. Might be a disaster, but might be the making of some players.
