@Crucial also despite two try savers on the line Rieko's ongoing defensive issues in the line
No one doubts his one on one skils, it is just applying those correctly that is the problem

Which probably adds to the reluctance to put RTS into the mix. An RTS/Goodhue combo is probably the best option if going in that direction but at the moment it is best to keep Rieko in play so those lessons can be learned and he can develop better decision making.

@voodoo sadly that's been evident for a while now.
IMO only one other player in NZ has a pass close to Smith, and that is Nock, but he is so far away with other aspects of his game.
Fakatava looks like he could be the real deal, while his pass isn't as good (duh) his all round game looks very good, an attacking threat with ball, strong defender and good over the ball...very exciting prospect.

Don't discount the possible kicking on of Ratima. He may get the second season (or more) blues but he looked a very good prospect from what we saw this year. He isn't a little fast 9 like Smith/Christie/Weber but has a good pass and an eye for a gap. In particular his running lines are well above the level you'd expect at this point in his development and getting to the ball can save more time than fast hands at times.
I have my fingers crossed. -

I'd say 'had the potential to have a Smith like pass'. It's gone backwards sadly- as has everything else. Really sad, I was keen for him to succeed
-
@nzzp I mean his speed and accuracy when he is playing well (which was not as often as you'd like) and he also had that ability to hit a man in traffic (again, not as often as you'd like)
But yeah, he has not kicked on and come close to his potential.

Interesting analysis from Squidge -
Jesus that's harsh, but true exactly how I see it - to paraphrase
"for 8 years the whatever the ABs have done had been what everyone else did"
"However under Foster ABs did what everyone did 3 years ago which has now been nullified"
"Relied on absolute brilliance of Ardie, Beaudy, Jordan to break things open"
EtcTotally worth a watch if you can get on a VPN, bascially he reckons Ireland will have us in the next match, cos as cool as the nuggy passing far is, Ireland have seen it and will adapt.
-
@Machpants which is why we now have DP and SB to hit it up in close, with Savea, Tupaea, Faingaanuku to run off their shoulders, changes of angles and then bring on our bench wrecking balls to finish them off (including that sweet inside space game that Fakatava plays).

I hope so!

You stopped at the point where he said (also paraphrasing)
"Now they've innovated again".
And, if he is correct about the pattern, as @Bones say the way they're set up, if the D drifts to the third guy, then there's gaps on the inside.

DP will no doubt bring added penetration…

DP and AS will be quite the combo.

Good article & analysis. Thanks for posting.
Liked this line "It’s worth noting that the introduction of Braydon Ennor did little to improve the situation." Apart from the irony and/or sarcasm, it raises the question that Reiko's D is an area of concern and poss.why they preferred ALB last year.

When passes go backwards you really have to consider whether a person should be playing rugby at all

It seems unbelievable to write this but the Irish are actually bigger whingers than the poms
-
The Barrett incident yes, stupid and he really is becoming a magnet for cards.
The Ioane tackle, good decision by onfield ref to let it go. We don’t want stupidity interfering with the game.

Having lived in Ireland their national psyche integrates the notions of injustice and getting a raw deal. So each loss discussion will include “the ref missed this or that” and nowadays “the TMO missed this or that”.
-
@Billy-Tell Jaa... it is ABs duty to keep them whinging and subconsciously happy!
I do think their rugby culture clashes with NZs as well. BOD, the other midfield shite that played with him bitchily talk about other players and coaches, non-selections, etc. What goes on tour/the field definitely doesn't stay there! Mind you BOD is Irelands biggest Karen so maybe it is unfair to the other rugby folk in Ireland.

They also “require” the AB post-match comments to mention Ireland in a favourable light, otherwise it’s showing disrespect. Then the usual plaudits that all fans from other teams throw our way: thugs, cheats, South Island Sea poaching, different treatment by World Rugby.
Fun times!

The Barrett comments now truly fall into this category:
The Fern is like a house full of geriatrics. People keep repeating themselves. Over and over again.
Kind of like Barrett repeating his poor tuck technique, it’s almost like there is a link?

The article doesn’t tell us how many Irishmen could have died.
PS: who is the whinging dobber that has released that info. Those comments (if true) are never released publicly
-
I really don't see why Rieko's tackle should have been a yellow.

Yes, totally valid convo. People constantly repeating each other and going on and on about it is just plain boring and I'm entitled to say that. I'm not telling anyone what and where things can be posted. Just expressing my opinion about it. It's you expressing your wish that I don't express that opinion.
I'm now muting this thread, so I don't have to see your reply.
-
I hope @Stargazer doesn't stumble into any other thread on here, I'm pretty sure all have been used at some stage for a dissection of 2019 RWC. It will blow their mind.
