By my count there are already 38 players in the squad. Is he an injury replacement?

    Media release Highlanders:

Argentine winger to join Highlanders in 2023 | Highlanders Rugby Club Limited Partnership

Argentine winger to join Highlanders in 2023 | Highlanders Rugby Club Limited Partnership

The Highlanders have added their last player to their 2023 squad with the signing of Argentinian, Martin Bogado.

seriously....first "highlight" is trying to catch a ball...and failing...second is making a small break and then falling over....

typically random, at least i think an outside back can get away with being an "outsider", if we play to just putting him in space he wont need to have shorthand that comes from really knowing the guys around you...but hardly seems like a marquee signing and honestly think id rather have someone like vahaakolo if its just to take up an outside back squad spot

edit: any chance his salary is partially paid by argentina or his pro14 club, if this is a bit of a development program for him?

I thought the first touch was quite good. He wasn't trying to catch it. Was more trying to deflect it back. Which he almost managed.

@SouthernMann maybe, i feel that's quite generous...but if true i question his decision making just trying to knock it back infield when so congested with opposition

@Kiwiwomble I agree with you. No highlights in that clip that say "sign me".

For who didn't read the Highlanders' media release:

Bogado has signed a two-year deal and will join the team early in the New Year.

This is confusing and you have to ask why? AFAIK Bogado is a good winger but do we really have a shortage of good wingers in NZ? I can understand the Crusaders signing Matera this year. He is a world class forward who ended up making World Rugby's team of the year. But a young winger?

i can only see it as some sort of loose "raise profile" move...hoping to boost the brand outside NZ?

@Kiwiwomble yeah looked like a case of the clarkesies at the start, but seemed to get better. Was that him that did the kick at the end? It was fucking massive.

    I like it.

“He hasn’t played since the Force game and has done no contact, so we’re we're going to try to build him up to see where we can get to.

i had missed that he didn't play NPC, i would rather see gilbert or koroi given a shot than relying on banks, a bit worried now...not sure there are real superstars out there looking for a gig so anyone we bring in is going to have some reason they dont already have a contract

@Kiwiwomble Caleb Makene would have been handy, but I suspect he'll return to Utah Warriors.

Campbell Parata could be worth a go, seeing as it seems he missed out on a Force contract.

Could be interesting to see if they could pull a player from the northern hemisphere or South Africa over. If you are replacing Hunt, you do want to bring in someone in with a similar level of experience.

I'm surprised the Highlanders didn't go after Jackson Garden-Bachop

Nah, pass on that. we already have two older mid-level battlers. Don't need to add a third.
