Hurricanes 2023

@Canes4life He's a 12 that can play 10. A big frame on him, good footwork. can kick. He played for St John's College in the CNI comp, made the barbarians team from memory. A good pick up.
-
Yes, O'Brien was in the Barbarians U18s and also played for the Asian Barbarians in the World School 7s.
-
@Canes4life A bit of a confusing name is this one. Is that the real Under 20s (or A Team) or the Under 20s "B" team?
-
@Canes4life If rumours are true, Gus Brown may be in the Crusaders U20 WTG.
I'm also surprised Gilgal Malasia (Bethel's twin) isn't in the squad.
-
@Stargazer Didn't see much of him (Gilgal) for Napier Tech last season. He was injured when I arrived up home and only got back for the last few games so can't really give a totally informed rating as to his form. The few times I glimpsed him we went ok with the ball in hand going forward but there is more than that to a No 8s requirements.

Lol of course he is, don't they have enough props down there? A real shame as I felt he's the most promising prop to come out of the Hurricane's catchment for some time.
-
@Higgins I guess Jayden Stok is too old now? If he's U21, he may still have a chance to get picked in the Barbarians U21 team. He really should get that opportunity, after not having been able to compete in the SR U20s tournament, last year.
-
@Stargazer In all honesty he looked just a good, well drilled and solid team player in the games I saw him at Tech Old Boys. He did make a few nice breaks in midfield but when a lot of the Texans game plan revolved around choking the living daylights out of the opposition pack before bring attacking play in the backs into play he was not really given as big a chance as he might have got to showcase himself.

Seems to be lots of Hawkes Bay players in there? Have we signed a bunch of Wellingtonian kids for our U20s team?

@Higgins This is the squad they'll pick the Hurricanes U20 squad from.
Oh right, so that's where the HB players will drop out.

Our Academy got at least two players from Manawatū's Academy, who - due to plain incompetence and/or lack of $$ of the MRU - weren't offered contracts: Hunter Morrison and Kade Manuel. I'll check the others later. Just like Flanders and Godfrey, Morrison has a National Development Contract and is training with the Hurricanes' senior side.

Haha, yeah, I think Larsen is still there!

Is this the World’s toughest pre-season activity?

The Hurricanes will be the fittest they have ever been. It's their year!
-
@Canes4life I fucking laughed when this self described "fitness fanatic and adrenaline junky" got overtaken by a prop early in the bike leg.

Be a lot easier with a road bike, clean them up, they're all on low geared MTB.
