@g-man Ignorant 20 year old me was at that game in the North stand. Initially we were scared that the plane would crash into the stands it was so low. On the way out we saw many exhausted and bleeding policeman sitting around and I thought - what the hell have these guys been through so that I could watch a game of footy? Being better informed later in life and having visited SA in 99 on a footy trip, (we saw the Blues and the Chiefs both loose to the Stormers!) if I had my time again would likely have been on the other side of the barricades, at least figuratively. We stayed in Cape Town with a wonderful 'Cape Coloured' (as they called themselves) family half of whom were fanatical All black Supporters and the rest Bok fans. It was great fun. We were also guided around Robin Island by a remarkable and eloquent man who spent 20 years a few cells down from Nelson Mandela. An amazing educating experience about courage, resolve and endurance.
Nice, I was only 4 years old then. I listened to my brother when I was younger about how told the game.
Yeah I live in Somerset West, about 30 min from CPT. Yes the coloureds are split between the supporting the AB's and Boks. But I reckon the younger generation will starting moving over to supporting the Boks. Have a friend in Pretoria who is a staunch Saders supporter but supports the Boks.

Alan Hewson didn’t cover himself in glory for those first two.
Yeah I don't think anybody would cover himself in any day if a winger is having a good day at the office.

@g-man and Moordt had many good days. One of the best ever imo. Scared me every time he ran onto a pass.
He was exceptional on that tour. Watched the games a few a times now and every time wondered how did he not score more?

@g-man One amusing memory from that day. During the game a guy in the eastern terraces started yelling and waving a 'Biko' protest flag among the crowd. The rugby supporters around him could have dragged him to the ground and kicked seven bells out of him but they did the opposite. They picked him up and passed him over their heads unharmed down to the Police at the front of the stand.

I remember watching this test at a pub in Taupo, as I was working in the region at that time.
BTW, for anyone who has Sky TV they are showing all of the 1996 test series against SA today starting from 1 pm (SS1).
