B B McCullum: England Test Coach

Reason is a dreadful sports journo. He was awful in the UK and to our shame we have allowed you guys to inherit him. Sorry.
But as is usually the case with him there is a little tidbit that chimes with many. In that rubbish article I’d say it is the Roy Keane/Wayne Smith bit.

The Senior Coaches role is not necessarily about coaching the skills, they have specialist batting, bowling and fielding coaches for that. Baz will bring a lot of positivity to the set up and the correct team culture and the analytical and match plan knowledge that England currently lack at Test level anyway
Yeah, a coaches job is basically about man management/motivation skills, tactics etc... going to be a bit strange playing against the poms with McCullum as their coach, also another NZer as their captain.
"In cricket you really only need a coach to get the team from the hotel to the ground."

Mark Reason has stuck his oar in.
I suspect 10 years ago I might have agreed with him. These days I have made my peace with coaches going overseas and coaching against NZ teams.
The man is an utter troll shock journo
Yeah but he makes a good point. What experience does McCullum have ?
I can only assume Chris Rattue is on leave? This article is very ‘him’

So choosing between them is like trying to pick which end of a piece of dog shit is cleanest to pick up then ?

I don’t count him. He couldn’t look or sound more English if he tried and has lived there most of his life.
South Africa have far more reason to gripe at us when you consider a few of our recent stars.

He's still a NZer though.
A fair few countries have had different nationalities playing for them over the years... can't think of any other country that's had a coach & captain from the same country playing for another country together.

He moved to England as a kid. It’d be like SA trying to claim Andrew Merhtens
But then again it is amusing in one sense that England have appointed a couple of colonials in such important positions. I wonder what the gin and tonic brigade think of that ?

Yeah that does ring a bell
…..and Stokes moved at the age of 12 so I guess he did play here as a kid.

Depends how well he plays…..
But yeah, definitely not a poach. Not like Conway, Wagner and the Hairy Jav that’s for sure

So Wisden picked a combined XI from the two squads…..
Clutching at straws to get FIVE poms in there I reckon.
In my combined team only three make it ( two if Watling was still playing )
I’d go Latham, Conway, KW, Root, Nicholls, Stokes, Bairstow, KJ, Southee, Wagner and Boult.
Anderson and Broad just a bit too old in my opinion. On respective averages you could make a claim for CDGH over Stokes and it’s also fair to say Bairstow isn’t exactly dominant compared to Blundell.
Root as the second best batsman of the two squads walks in easily though.
-
@MN5 What a crap bowling attack. In terms of balance rather than ability. Clearly couldn't not pick one of the venerable England pace bowlers so going with Anderson Broad Boult Southee Jamieson and Stokes. Jeezuz
English conditions drop two out of the named specialist bowlers add Wags and a batsman. Which is what you did.

I should be a selector.
I do seriously admire Andersons longevity ( and Broads to be fair ).
But I can’t pick either ahead of our quartet.
