@nzzp @Billy-Webb @Snowy RWC’s are magic for bonding with your Dad, brothers and mates. Look forward to sharing them with my boys.
They’re also ace for running into former teammates randomly. Nothing like rushing a few more frothies in before hitting the stadium because you bumped into old mate from 3-legged rocking horse RFC 3rds and he’s hit perfect yarn spinning form.
But an under appreciated joy are the bullshit sessions with random okes you run into who could’ve been your club mates (but weren’t because of accidents of time and geography.)
The English toffs sat behind you who also decided to hit the 07 final after the dust settled on the quarters. That you can’t help torturing by agreeing that Cueto’s toe never touched the line. The passionate kiwis who were satisfyingly quiet in the opening quarter of the 2019 AB Bok game, then annoyingly, justifiably mouthy as the ABs take their chances and then somehow more annoyingly gracious after the whistle.
Asterix and Obelix using all their Gallic charm to provoke the only true rudeness you see from any Japanese bar staff. And who you kept running into, more pissed each time. A random bunch of Aussies that mystifingly includes Adam Frier, as much a Wallaby as any club’s 2nds hooker impatiently waiting for the well-connected 1sts hooker to finally retire, or for the selection panel to take their heads out their arses.
Plenty wrong with our game, but it’s got a fair bit right with it too.
It did though
Even I would admit that!

See I've completely blanked the 2007 RWC. I remember watching that game too. So only Aussie.
2007?

French as hosts, the nation that has been to 3 RWC Finals with 0 wins, massive pressure on them.

Depth and therefore versatility are going to be a huge key.
Even without injuries the tail end of the tournament could have us running on empty like 2011.
We need a prop that is good on both sides, a very good lock/6, 2 or 3 versatile loosies and a wing/centre.
Some of those we currently have but we will be screwed if crossing fingers that they all make it. Development is going to have to be a big part of Foster's plans. -
@Catogrande it’s more fun if you don’t.

i swear to god these pools are the same every four fucking years. Oh yay, we are playing France and Italy again. At least we won't get Tonga again.
The World Cup is shit because the same teams play each other all the time anyway, the same teams play the finals every time, and only a couple of teams can actually win it.
I'm over it already and the fucking thing isn't even for 3 years. 3 years of teams "experimenting" and "building for the world cup" yay

@mariner4life it is a bit samey

@mariner4life over the last few world cups pool play has become more and more boring as it always seems to be the same teams and the same outcomes.
Unfortunately the knock out stages is only when it gets interesting.

fuck dry powder.
There is no jeopardy. All the good teams don't have to qualify to make the tournament. All the good teams know they are going to make the quarters.
2015 had the best pool of any world cup i can remember. and people hated it! thought it was ridiculous.
maximising TV ratings is bad for sport. The tournament would be way better if nearly everyone had to qualify (and makes Tier 1 teams go away and play tier 2 and 3 teams), and if seeding was fucked off.

this is why i'd like to see more qualification, everyone except the hosts and the current champs, give tier two/three more games against the top team, hard for them to build when the only time they play the top teams is when it really counts

Exactly! Autumn internationals should be rwc qualifiers.
Islands, North snd South America, Eastern Europe. Do it properly.
