I don't think that was deserved. He had his hand on the ball as he made the tackle and still had his hands on the ball when he went to ground. It's a penalty, but shouldn't be a yellow.

I don't think it was cynical. That's the point. I think his hand was on the ball already and he just kept it there.
The last bit is why it's cynical under pressure.
It was microseconds in it, which makes it not cynical for me.

Why did the ref not stop play immediately? It was clear Hodgman was in trouble straight away
Because he was being seen too, stopping play wouldn't have helped him
