Staunch defence by the Chiefs in the 2nd half. I don't know what Joseph was trying to do from that last scrum. Clear the ball, kick it out - game over.
The Chiefs willingness to run everything from their exit plays is not good preparation for international rugby and the Black Ferns. At least they kicked more in the 2nd half. Matatū were more structured and their backs looked more dangerous. Not what you would have expected.

@bovidae Yeah, we basically need Manawa's defence combined with Matatū's attack.
Manawa's defence kept them in the game in the second half; I don't know whether there are any stats for this game, but Matatū must have had about 90% of territory in the last 40 minutes. It's a pity that last conversion was missed; I would have liked to get the extra time.
By the way, Kennedy Simon just saying that they have a few players out with Covid.

Ruby Tui is one of my favourite players but she needs to dial it down in XVs and stop trying to create something every time she touches the ball.

Semple (Alley) is one as she said she was isolating last week. Her husband is part of the Blues coaching team so she would be a close contact. Maybe Wills too, unless she is injured.
The Chiefs really missed Semple and Fluhler in the midfield. Daals got caught too often with the ball. You saw in this game why I was disappointed that Kalounivale didn't get a game on the tour last year.
Even though she made a few mistakes I think Brazier might be the best option at 10 for the Black Ferns.

70 minute games? 25 players in the squad - it's like NZR are saying girls can't hack it!
I don't know whether that's the way to look at it.
The teams have had a very short preseason; nothing like the men. The teams have Covid cases, so not everyone available from the small squads. Short turnaround (5 days).
It won't help for this year's World Cup, but they need to make these players full-time professionals, who don't depend on jobs outside rugby for the entire duration of the comp. And then make the competition longer with teams playing each other home and away, and then a final.
Having seen the quality of this game and the great entertainment factor, they should be able to find sponsors to finance that. And, hopefully, they will be albe to play in front of crowds, next year. I'd pay for tickets to a game like tonight's.
