Yes, the game completely ruined and you've got to feel sorry for the Italians, fucking ridiculous law.
-
Absolute joke
Moronic law amendment from World Rugby
England must be very grateful that this law wasn’t in force when Hartley was playing
And BOD is a complete cock
15 v 14 is no advantage if you go to uncontested scrums
Fuck off
At minute 64 an Irish forward hit the Italian 12 head high and they didn’t even look at it
Despite the scoreline Ireland have been unimpressive
-
And whilst I feel sorry for Italy I cannot understand why the fuck you would box kick possession away when you’re 43-6 down
-
And now an Italian has been YC for doing a Luke Cowan Dickie even though the Irish player had his arm locked up

@mikethesnow
Worst game by Ireland in years. When you are playing against 13 then against 12 men, you should score at least 15 tries. -

Italy down to 12 men for the last 10 minutes and Ireland go for catch & drive from the lineout
Then continue to play pick and go

Italy were always going to lose this fixture because that's what they're in the 6N for, but they've a legitimate claim about shit refereeing. Red card vs ignored:
Yep
Called that during the match

Calm down. Its not as though ireland are still playing Schmidtball. Farrell is picking a mobile, ball playing team that's good to watch usually. Why get upset over a nothing game like that?

I think he explained it well. Same reason I dislike the Brumbies.

Regardless of anything else, surely it must be consensus that Italy having to play with 13 men was a really shit outcome. I wonder if you surveyed the 40,000 people there, how many would say they were happy with the way this worked out.
It seems that Italy lost their first hooker to injury, so be it. And then the second was red carded. So apparently the rule is that if you cannot have contested scrums due to a carded player, then you must lose an extra player. I guess the thought process is that you are effectively removing a potential opposition attacking weapon, in order to keep it equitable, the law book thinks removing a second player is the equivalent of contested scrums.
Firstly, this is a complete fallacy. It makes the assumption that your scrum was the weaker one to start off with. Which is not necessarily the case.
Secondly, who the fuck could write a law book that states, that 13 vs 15 players is something that can happen, and something that anybody wants to be a part of, or witness. That's completely fucked up. Yes, you could argue the Italy hooker should know the rules and watch himself etc, but it's not like it was a clear punch. It was misapplied tackle. Exactly the same thing Ireland got nothing for as shown a couple of posts above.
A contest is still a contest, abelt a more difficult one at 14 vs 15. The blame for this tilt lies squarely at the red card offender. But 13 vs 15 isn't rugby. That's something else. This totally isn't fair, but It's a black mark for me against the Irish captain for not chatting to the referee and stating, "this is absurd, Italy shouldn't have to play with 13, can I ask for them to be allowed another player". What would you rather be, captain of a winning team in which you had an absurd unfair advantage, or the captain who questioned the rules & asked for them to be bent in our oppositions favour to ensure a game could be played in front of a crowd of paying guests. Ireland were never going to lose against 15, let alone 14. This sort of gesture is career defining & sets you up for life in your post rugby retirement.
Whoever made this rule, and whoever was involved in approving it should be banished from global sport forever. Not just rugby, sport.

So ireland were supposed to take it easy on the italians? And if ireland miss out on the championship by points difference - which has happened before - they can console themselves in the fact that they took it easy on the italians?

But you've already lost to the eventual winners!
Quite frankly a team that doesn't demonstrate the ability, interest or intent to spread the ball and enjoy themselves against 12 with the result sewn up doesn't deserve to win a title.
