I think they're in a bit of a jam in terms of expansion. Two biggest cities have two teams each (go The Thunder!) and there aren't many others that are going to support the venue requirements at this point.
 
Manuka Oval in Canberra maybe, but will it stir the same small-town parochialism as Hobart or Perth? ... or Adelaide or Brisbane... 
 
I think, in that sense, its perfect for the Kiwi teams to want to take down Big Brother.

Guys earning sixes through power and timing like the old days would be refreshing rather than the top edges that go for six that we see nowadays. Only issue is will todays fans whinge cos there's less boundaries ?
 
Back to the money side of things I remember being mates of a mate of a guy who knows James Franklin who earned 168k US for a couple of months in India and naturally whenever he went out with Tendulkar by his side ( which the team did every night they weren't playing ) he never had to reach in his pocket. Not bad for a guy who was tenuously in and out of the Black Caps at the time and was confused what his role in the team actually was.
 
But then a guy like Guptill doesn't even get an IPL contract at all ?????? some shit sure makes no sense.

Freakish sort of last over. Made number 1 play on the US edition of Sportscenter today which is good to see.

1) What would have happened if the scores had finished tied?
 
2) If a batsman is caught out, but the batsmen have crossed and are starting to come back for a possible 2nd run (if catch had been dropped), does the first run count?

He didn't say "typical blacks, athletically great, dumb as shit", but I'm pretty sure thats what the Windies heard. Writing for his Aussie audience again I guess...

Same in the UK where Franklin has always had zero problem getting very high paying contracts - and has delivered. He's one of those guys that NZ crowds don't rate at all yet teams that pay on results have always paid top dollar for. He had a period where he was getting slagged off if mentioned near the BCs yet Mumbai were paying him a shit ton to open with Sachin & Gloucs were paying him a similarly large amount to play as their overseas pro. Middlesex just named him as their 50 over captain at a time when most BCs couldn't get a gig in the UK if they begged.
 
Over the last 10 years he's probably been on of the consistently highest earning NZ cricketers. And it's backed up on the pitch, more 1st class tons than Cairns - in less games, and took his wickets at a better average. 
 
The Fern however hates him. But I'm not sure I'd give a shit if I were Franklin.

Yeah, very similar, some guys just struggle to step up. Tho' he had a problem in that he played alongside Cairns & Oram, both of whom were better at test level so he was never sure of his place. Or if he got in it was just til Cairns was <strike>fixed</strike> made healthy

1. They would have played a 'super over', which gives each team one over each to score as many as possible.

Update,50mm will be the depth limit.Warner and khawaja bats are about 70 to 80 mm

Another reason James Franklin gets more contracts than Guptill is that Franklin plays less international cricket, so is available more. Guptill getting selected regularly for the test side has probably contributed a lot to not getting signed to 20/20 contracts.

I went to college with Franklin and he was very much a "batter who could bat" who was also very good with the ball. I watched him hit 100 after 100 after 100 so was very surprised to see him bowling and batting at 9 when he first hit the scene. From memory I think Hadlee really liked what he saw with the ball so encouraged him to focus on that. 
I think Franklin was a huge talent that was very poorly managed by NZC, as were a lot of players around that time.

I agree, I was a real fan of Jimmy but some of his international returns made that tough at times. Sir Paddles apparently said he was like a left handed version of himself. At international level Cairns and Oram were better options though so perhaps Anderson or Neesham will end up with a similar return especially given the emergence of Santner.
 
....which brings me to my next point.....good on him for "making" the team of the tourney, surprising only two WI players made it, I guess everyone from the squad had at least one moment of brilliance and if they failed someone else stepped up. Sammy must be one hell of a canny and inspirational captain cos as a player he didn't do shit.

"Matt & Jeremy are famous for identifying where the line is and then ignoring it, however putting Ben's Mum to air without her knowledge, albeit defending her son, was obviously well over that line," NZME group program director Mike McClung said in a statement to news.com.au.
"They've been suitably reprimanded, and are off-air tomorrow."

In her conversation with Heath, whom she clearly didn't recognise by voice, Deborah Stokes said: "I don't know whether they realise he was actually born and bred in New Zealand and quite frankly has family all over the country. And for those who listen to your station, for them to sit and listen to their cousin and their grandson being bagged like that is absolutely unconscionable and I'm his mother and I'm totally brassed off."
Heath then described Stokes as a "great and amazing cricket player".
"I know he is, but it's not even about the cricket. It's about the personal attack on him. They called him arrogant and then they called him some sort of name. They don't know him! They wouldn't have a bloomin' clue," Deborah Stokes continued.
Heath asked her to "slow down" because he wanted to write down the complaint.

Heath denied that and again went down the line of what an amazing cricketer Stokes was.
"I get that, but what I'm saying is, for my family â€“ and a lot of my family have rung me and said 'have you heard this, Deb?' â€“ I'm just really disappointed. Say those things and then temper it with some positives. Have a look on Twitter, see the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Tino Best, Graham Onions â€“ all of those people giving him their support because they know that tomorrow is another day," Deborah Stokes replied.

I can't begin to imagine how you'd nail down a fulltime job interview with "by the way I need 12 weeks off a year to play and train cricket!" if you didn't have any other income.</blockquote>
