I don’t see why people are obsessed with putting him back on the wing.
There's a reputation lag. Because he was a work in progress centre a few years ago people still see him as that despite him really developing at 13.
The same reputation lag applies in reverse to Jack Goodhue - who had a great 2018 at 13 for the ABs.
Reputation lag basically describes the starting AB pack from last year.

Our back line picks itself at the moment.
really? For me, only 9, 13 and then Jordan on form pick themselves, where the latter goes depends on several things (who plays 10, where/if they play JB)

@cgrant If he still played on the wing, yes. Not as a midfielder.
there isn't a team in the world that wouldn't take RI on current form at 13
He would transform Ireland to RWC favourites instantly for instance
I don't watch enough of overseas rugby to know whether he is the best centre in the world or not.

The question was which players would be in the world top 10. I think Rieko is developing nicely into a world class 13, but already in the top 10 overall (regardless of position)? No. A world top 10 of centres: yes.

in that case, we have none, and RI would be the closest.

@mariner4life That's one opinion. I'd put Jordie Barrett and Will Jordan ahead of him.

and you would be wrong. Jordie Barrett a better player than RI??? lol

@mariner4life All opinions are just that, including yours.

mine is better though

Ok, so we are struggling to get a player in the top 10 at the moment. I am.hoping Jordam will develop into one, but I do worry what he will be like when his pace is gone. A bit like BB in that respect.

can anyone actually name the top 10 players in the world right now?
This was all much easier when we just said
R McCaw
D Carterand left the rest to fend for themselves
-
Man, I needed a good laugh. Jordie and Will rated higher than Ioane?
The very definition of a minority opinion.
Jordie may not even beat Will on his own for the 15 jersey, and Will is very inexperienced at Test level.
Ioane is now one of the top players in two positions at Test level, delivered - objectively - on the field. Not the promised potential of a Jordan or the inconsistency of JB.

A "top ten player in the world" is a bit of a pointless concept.
It's not a game where all players bring the same skill sets.
Better question is who makes a World XV / is number one in their position.
Being a casual Aussie sports fan he probably wouldn't expect to pick too many tight forwards, just those guys from the highlights reels (although that may include Tupou).
-
@mariner4life So we did have that world XV poll ...
Although it could probably have had more French and Irish players in it.

If he has a top season at test level at centre this year then yeah, top player in two positions. Last year he was very good, but still looked like a winger doing a good job at centre. This year to me, at Super level, he is looking more and more like a centre. Hoping he can show it at Test level too.
-
Well....this is a mature conversation......
RI is head and shoulders above everyone else at center in NZ at the moment and we have some good wingers in Jordan and Reece with some other prospects like LF, Clarke, etc who may or may not make the grade based on the business end of the season to take the winger spots.
