We need to retitled this thread WTC 3rd v 4th
Quick update on how second versus "first" is going:
Imagine if we'd taken India to the Gabba...

Meh ...
It is cute how you think you're special for winning it once. Even the Poms have done that.

Weather this week for the Gabba, keeping in mind La Nina is a little bitch. Light showers at this point, but probably annoying more than anything.
Queensland doesn't do "light showers".
Blows in, drops, and fucks off again.

just quietly i am quite enjoying WA thrashing around trying to get a test this summer despite loudly declaring they don't want to be part of the country anyway. An Ashes test in Tassie would be great.

Fuck yeah. And it would have the dual effect of making Canberra angry. Manuka Oval is a nice spot but it isn't an Ashes venu's arsehole.

You’re only playing England.

True. Their status as ODI World Champs is about as meaningful as our T20 World Champs.
Well... except we won ours fair and square.
I think the word in bold is relevant.

Is England's pace attack suited to Australian conditions? Probably more suited than bringing a bunch of seamers...
-
Apparently the new Kookaburra will help out in the swing/seam department:
The lining, which has a ridge under the seam of the ball, should ensure that seam, known to many bowlers as the “rudder” for swing and movement off the pitch, won’t lose its fibre as easily - - closer in performance to the Dukes ball used in England. It has taken the Kookaburra a world away from the type of projectile hurled down, without much success, by England’s bowlers in the highly attritional 2017-18 Ashes. Combined with a damp La Nina summer, the adjustments made to the Australian Test match ball may well contribute to a closer series than many expect.

It could be on the east coast if the cooler, wetter conditions hold.

I dunno, are geriatrics like Anderson and Broad more or less likely to break down in Aussie conditions ?

Interesting. Nz have been using a new experimental kooka in Plunket Shield this season and last. Wonder if it is same one , assume it is.
Seen a resurrection of the kiwi dobblers dominating domestics.

Well, they’re attempting to manage Anderson’s workload, so I’d guess it is a concern for the selectors.
I’m resigned to this particular England team not doing very well. 😟

Good call, aside from Root they’re shit and they’ll get pumped 5-0 if the weather holds up.
