With none of the batters able to roll their arms over to provide back up seam, I would be surprised if they went with two seamers and three spinners.
Stead has pretty much indicated that Patel and Somerville will be in the XI along with 2 pace bowlers. Like @Donsteppa I'd strengthen the batting for the last position and use Ravindra as the 5th bowling option.

Venturing off topic a bit.
But a little tribute for CdG's bowling.
We've never had a 5th bowler like him in my almost 40 years of watching. He was effective in almost all conditions (Asia, NZ, Aus etc). Kept it tight as well as getting wickets. New ball swing wickets, older ball wobble seam wickets.
Man, we're going to miss that ... yet, no qualms with him opting out of this tour and wondering if he would have been dropped anyway based on his current batting form.
But, what a useful player ha has been for us.
He became the kind of test player I hoped Corey Anderson or Jimmy Neesham would become, I looked at either one of those two as our answer to Ben Stokes to be honest.
CDGH rode his luck and had a very decent career all things considered.

His timing is right. The team is passing him by now. Doesn't detract from the contribution made over the last few years

That’s a weakness of the test team relatively speaking. Others have better all rounders like Jadela, Ashwin, Stokes, Holder and Al Hasan.
Mitch Santner doesn’t quite compare to those guys.

It's some ways it's probably a good thing that the Caps get off an Emirates flight and straight into a game on Wednesday. I'm sour and grumpy about the game, and I'm half a world away, so goodness knows what it's like for them. Getting straight back into it probably avoids them dwelling on it for too long...
I see it's the same T20I squad as the World Cup for the India T20I games. I wonder if Allen and Ravindra will play themselves into the top team mix over the next 12 months. Will be interesting to watch Ravindra's bowling over the next wee while - if he can bat 6/7 and bowl four overs that would put real pressure on Santner, and especially on the erratic Sodhi.
And the biggest question; can Mr Ferguson stay consistently injury free at the right time?

It looks like both NZ and India will be resting some key players for the T20 games to save them for the test series. Williamson and Southee have been mentioned for NZ.

Makes sense, I wondered about Williamson's elbow injury ahead of the tests. Might be a paper thin specialist batting lineup with no Williamson or Conway in the T20I's...
-
NZ are down to 13 players (from the T20 squad), so limited amount of resting that they can do, unless they integrate the test players in to play some of the T20 games.
Although apparently Fergusson is near fitness again, and still there, and may be available. To push it up to 14 players.

They must be over there? None of the test players are playing Plunket Shield this round and I read in an article Taylor headed to India last week. So it's make sense to use those guys than rush Ferguson back.

Would love to see Wagner get his white-ball debut for NZ, and then clean up, and then never play the format again ....
I could live with that. The fact he’s never had a go surprises me to no end.
I don't understand either. These days his bowling has so much variation. And he can bat a bit

Hold up an end maybe, I love Wags but I’d hardly use that as a glowing endorsement for a spot in the shorter form. Pretty much anyone can bat a bit these days. Can’t think of the next Chris Martin off the top of my head.
You would think his bowling efforts deserved a shot though. Has he made himself unavailable or has he not been selected ?

Wags doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would opt out. We loves Wags ❤

Confirmation that Williamson won't be playing in the T20s and Southee will be the captain. Kohli won't be playing either, or in the 1st test.
Black Caps T20 squad to face India: Tim Southee (captain), Daryl Mitchell, Martin Guptill, Tim Seifert, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Jimmy Neesham, Kyle Jamieson, Todd Astle, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.
-
Ended up being a close game in the first T20I. The paper thin squad became even thinner with The Neesh unwell, so Ravindra was drafted across from the test squad to bat at 6. Not thrown the ball though.
No Neesh to bowl at the death and Astle being expensive saw Mitchell thrown the ball for the first time on tour for the final over.

What did he go for in that over?
