The Crusaders have re-signed Tim Bateman and signed Mike Delany.
Bateman I expected, but Delany not at all. Presumably we'll let go Marty McKenzie which isn't a bad thing as I don't rate him and don't like his game, but I didn't expect it to be in favour of a 35 year old. I also assume Brett Cameron will be involved in the wider squad which means Mo'unga will be ably spotted next year by a crew of talented midgets and a classy grandpa.

Former Crusaders assistant backs coach Tabai Matson, who is back in NZ after recently severing his ties as Todd Blackadder's assistant at English premiership club Bath, was Robertson's boss when Canterbury won the national title in 2012 but is understood to have already agreed to work under Colin Cooper at the Chiefs.

Not unhappy about that Chiefs can have him

Delany is a big upgrade on Mackenzie. I'm happy to have him as a third string 10.....
I guess we'll see a fair bit of him playing club rugby, wonder which club he's going to.

maybe he could play for NZ7s?

What a click bait title. If you read the article, he's not "hitting out" at all. He's just expressing his disappointment, which is understandable. He's been excellent for Waikato. We'll never know how their season would have ended if he hadn't pulled his hamstring, but they might just have been able to remain in the Premiership.
-
@taniwharugby From the article:
Guildford, currently recovering from a hamstring injury, is now targeting a comeback with the Waikato Sevens team in December. However despite showing excellent form for Waikato during domestic tournaments last summer, he doesn't believe the national selectors will change their stance. "I think that most doors are closed for me here in New Zealand from the higher powers at the NZRU.
-
@stargazer I didn't read the article!
How many games did he play, he looked in decent form early on (2/3 games) then got injured and then re-injured in his come back game didn't he?
Am sure Titch woulda picked him
-
@taniwharugby He played 448 minutes spread over 7 games (including that last game in which he played only a few minutes before re-injuring).
-
He limped off in the Manawatu game - game 6.

Yeah I wanted to be outraged and so decided to have a read! Then couldn't find the hitting out. What a shit headline. Fair enough on Zac, all he's done is state the facts pretty much.

Apparently the Crusaders squad will be announced tomorrow morning.
It appears unlikely Leon MacDonald's replacement will be signed-up before the Crusaders' squad is unveiled this week. Applications for the assistant backline coach's position, which became vacant when MacDonald exercised the option to leave the Crusaders after one season into a two-year deal, closed on October 20 but the appointment process may not be completed before the Super Rugby champions' squad is released on Wednesday morning.
