NZ v Australia Test #1
-
Pretty fecking disappointing after all the pre match build up/hype/expectation (is this a Warriors thread?).

I don't think there will be any major changes, it's a pretty settled team who have done well over the last 18 months, so they'll get an opportunity to redeem themselves.

I agree with the call to give Henry a run. Bracewell & Wagner have had their chances with mixed success, so I think the time is right (while he's in good form) to bring Henry in and see what he can do.

IMO Corey is safe for now as there are no fit alternatives.

Kane will be furious with himself, so I'm sure he'll be extra motivated to do well in Chch.

BMac surely can't go out with a whimper...... can he????

And bloody BJ is waaaaaaay overdue. -

Even though it was Valentines Day yesterday ? stink dude.......
-

Realistically its the same story re our batting. Against the top teams its Kane or Ross to go big with Watling supporting. And Ross is out & Watling is having a pause in his batting before he coasts to 15 test tons.

So its Kane. By himself.

Also I'd be tempted to bat Craig at 6. People bitch about his bowling (rightly) but given our quality in batting we could do worse than play him as a batting part timer. Anderson is a test 7 or even 8, not a 6.
-
-

Has Watling been playing any cricket lately?

Looks stale as and has been getting out outside off for months now

edit: form this year,

He's not a test 6 either tho'.

And yes, he's permanantly broken
-

Easy to forget just how good Oram was. He was a fricking excellent 6 for us, just never fit.

His 3 top scores - tons v SA twice & Aussie. No minnow bashing there.

And not shihouse SA either, Steyn Pollock Kallis Ntini SA...

I'd almost rank him with Bond in terms of "if only he could have been fit for a while"
-

Just my theory,

I suspect against Australia , the temptation of getting into a wining position on day 1 was worth the gamble of a supposed 50-50 toin coss ,

On an even money wicket , Australia holds the advantage anyway
-

With a 10 week old Gunner Jnr in the house, the odds were never in my favour. -

That's the time you put them somewhere where you can't hear them and bank on the fact their immobility will mean they stay in the same place for at least a minute or two which should be all you need.

I'm banking on the Caps to come back far stronger as is often the case with them, whether it's enough to even threaten a win is another story but they will show more guts and the aforementioned top order will do better.

I'm not sure if the Neesh is quite at Oram levels of brokenness is he ? As a like for like replacement of Anderson he is very appealing.

I'm also curious as to the reasons why people think he's not a test six. two tons in a brief career would indicate otherwise.
-

Anderson is definitely a better batsman than Craig. Craig has relied on not outs for his average. Anderson can bat at number 6, he just has to contribute with the ball. He is not one of the 6 best batsmen in New Zealand.

Who are? given Taylor and Santner are out. -

Dean Brownlie is injured I think but he is definitely better than Anderson. Not sure how long he is out for. I think Will Young is definitely a better player although he is still a bit green. There are a couple more with better FC batting records than Anderson but without seeing them play much it is hard to judge. One of them is even called Ben Smith (although he happens to be an opener).

I think Anderson definitely warrants selection if you feel you need a 5th bowling option. I would probably still pick him.
-

Neesham has a good record over his 9 tests. At the very least he deserves the opportunity to prove himself as a number 6.
