All Blacks EOYT 2021

Would surprise me if Frizell got the nod given how competitive the current crop of loosies are.
He's basically already been picked though. He was named in the squad and the only reason he didn't travel was pending legal issues.
Personally I wouldn't pick him and I think he should be in jail.
Even if they did unselect him I struggle to think of a large blindside they could take a chance on? All the other serious options are injured
-
@duluth Don't think it matters whether their preferred position is 6 or 8, and can play the other well, but MMT and Flanders are serious options IMO. Not sure what injury kept MMT from playing last Saturday, but DF just going through head knock protocols and available again soon. But I don't think they'll take newbies (incl Robinson if he were fit) on EOYT and would keep their limited MIQ spots for experienced players. If he was actually fit and playing (well) that could have been Squire, or even Cullen Grace, who has been in the squad already, but they're not available.
-
@nostrildamus assuming you are talking Robinson, he is possibly making a return this weekend from being out for several weeks after a concussion (I personally think there is no reason to risk him, even for my beloved Taniwha given the state of the season, so better off letting him recover ready for Super)

I'm actually struggling to think of a time when we were so strong at 6/7/8. And the current crop are still pretty raw experience-wise and will only get better.
Apart from Kaino/McCaw/Read Cane, Messam, Vito right?
We can probably take Cane out of the equation as he'll be in both squads, but I think the current squad is as strong overall and will only get better. Vito & poss. Messam would struggle to get into the current squad, IMHO.
Foster's big problem is getting the combinations right but that's a nce problem to have.
what?! that's absolute rubbish.

Foster's 1st choice 8 seems to be Ardie or Jacobson and then Sotutu next in line. His first choice 6 is Akira
On the basis that he was a 6 or 8, I'm not sure Liam would oust Ardie or AI as 1st choice and it would be a fight between him, Papilli, Cane, Blackadder and Jacobson for a slot in the squad, so, yeah, I think it's poss. he'd miss out.
Heck of a decision though.

weird way of looking at it i guess. Make an assumption that they are first choice when that wouldn't be the case if Liam was available.
In an ideal world, Messam has a few years left after Kaino goes and he is ripping it up at 6 in 2019, Unfortunately...

Thanks I was, but fair enough, didn't know he was on the recovery path. Only mentioned him because someone said who are the big flankers back home!

Just trying to fit in around here...

Definitely. Been a problem filling Jerome's boots, AI seems to be easing into them nicely though

@victor-meldrew Umm until he played like an absolute fuckwit against SA, yeah sure, Ioane was looking great.
As for Vito and Messam struggling to get in ahead of the mob we have now? Ludicrous.

If you are going to judge on one game, I give you Kaino in 2017. He was anonymous and pulled against against the Lions in the 1st Test and then his YC in the 3rd....

Couldn't think of a less relevant comparison. 2017 Kaino was at the very tail end of his career and was already a great. That comparison just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Totally agree with you. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to judge a player on one game. That was the point I was making when responding to your comments on Akira Ioane's poor game on Saturday

@duluth one of these is a big blindside flanker...is he still injured?
Did Telea think he was going to prison?

Played like a fuckwit? Really?
I’d reserve that for people like Greylings, Krige, McRae.

That's trying to explain a nonsensical comparison with more nonsense.
Kaino is remembered for an outstanding career, two RWC wins, and might just be the GOAT at 6. No-one judges him based on those games.
Ioane is starting out at international level and was just starting to look the part when he came badly unstuck in a game many suspected might find him out. He should have an opportunity to atone for that this weekend but if he can't that'll simply reinforce he's little more than another Frizzel. It's 100% fair to weigh up a judgement based on his body of work thus far with an emphasis on his last game as it was such a significant one.
That your post garnered two likes says so much about the fanatical Akira Ioane support from the Auckland posters!
-
Anyways, I never actually said I was judging Ioane on one game. I gave him credit for his improvement until the SA game and then stated the obvious around his terrible performance in a crunch game. Am I actually "judging" him on that? No, but I'm taking it into account and giving it much more weight than many of his previous performances. Is that not fair?
