All Blacks vs Springboks I

Jeez I wouldn't pull Akira, he is too good, if I would back anyone to come right its him. Bridge though..bye bye
-
A few factors for the ABs here:
- Some new combinations on the park from last week
- Playing conditions a little tricky with some sweat on the ball - almost better off without it
- AB attack too wide with no depth to change lines. Either tighten up the line or get deeper and change angles.
- No subtlety in attack - where is the drop-pass from first receiver to BB or JB running a different line? Have they tried any short kicks yet?
- Forwards aren't operating in pods efficiently
I also think with Weber you might benefit more than what TJP is giving you right now.
For me, this is the result the ABs reap when they aren't allowed to play counterattack from general play. Counterattack from kick is a whole different ball game.

First game against decent opposition for a while. Boys taking time to adjust. Confident they will get better in 2nd half but so will SA. Blackadder looks a natural though. Have supported Bridge in the past but really poor game from him. We need Sevu out there.
What makes you think SA will get better in the second half? I kinda think they played to potential in that half and are still down.

Give Akira 10 minutes to fire up otherwise drag him.
Hopefully both him, Bridge, Retallick and Laulala can lift big time.

@antipodean Would Havili look worse than Bridge on the wing? He is a fullback so should be able to at least catch.
Why? He’s not even catching passes.

I'd like them to pull Bridge and Akira asap. Move Rieko to the left wing and bring on Tupaea. Move Blackadder to 6, Ardie to 7 and bring on Sotuta at 8.
And Havili?
The midfield (Havili and Rieko both) has not been functioning well, but to me that's mostly due to lack of good game management and lack of support from some of the forwards.

Winning will be up to us. SA are standing around waiting for us to drop them crumbs

Unlike the mindless performances against England in RWC2019 & Argentina last year where the team lost their collective heads, they do seem to have calmed themselves down and got some control back.
Saw some good signs in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half of adapting to the Ref and the Bokke tactics. - just need to stay focussed
Fingers well and truly crossed! It's a style we knew was coming, but the old plans and smash in the face. Lots of newbies and second stringers out there. Many never having played the boks. And boks are up for it, ref is enabling their style, and is a shock. Hopefully coming around

What about kicks..
I see the limitations, no point having Rieko as wing cover if there is no 13 cover, but if there is no wing cover what do you do? -
I'd give Akira the first 10 and if he doesn't get better, get Sotutu out there. Same for Bridge. They both need big halves.

I’ll say it again, they’re not doing well but I think they’ve been getting shit ball from tj and bb, it’s not coming fast enough to get past havili

Forwards aren't dominating. So everyone looks shit

“Tidy up our carry and clean game,” says Plumtree. What the hell does that mean?
Don't drop the ball, and clean out the rucks better.
-
@kiwiwomble Yep, spot on.

And some rubbish service from TJP who has been poor.
BB shuffling the ball sideways and not taking the line on. -

Carry with a bit of purpose too.

Maul set up from kick off. TJ goes blindside to a marked Bridge.
Dumb rugby won't win this no matter how well we execute.
