Chiefs 2022

@kiwiwomble Plenty of Chiefs players have moved in the other direction too, maybe not just in the same position.
Smith might be available if he isn't heading back to Japan.
He won't be going back to the Shining Arcs (Otere Black) but there will be other spots open I assume.

so in the last few years waikato or the chiefs have taken fletcher smith, gatland and now Ioane...leave us alone, pick on the saders!
....can we have smith or gatland back?
You're welcome to Gatland. He comes as a package deal mind you.

Well, I was really a bit pissed off with the Chiefs for losing Dmac with seemingly nothing in sight, but we have done as well as can be expected, given that we are losing our key game driver.
It should open up opportunities for younger players to have an opportunity (e.g., Trask at 15 or Stevenson etc) and we still have a player who should be able to drive around a Super team at 10.
So, less of a fuck you to the Chiefs board and coaching team, that's my new position. Until we start losing.

interesting article wonder who will replace kini

He would only have had a WTG contract this year.
While we would all like an explosive winger the coaches might think they've got enough cover with 5 players in this years squad able to play on the wing. If Wrampling gets a full contract he is an option there too. Maybe Narawa is available but not really a step up from who is there at the moment.

I don't get this 'losing DMac' like the Chiefs can compete. If he feels the need to make a load of cash he has to go overseas, this is one of the reasons that NZR want Silver Lake. If the players want the money, we're stuffed. It's only those that want to balance that with the awesomeness of being an All Black we have a chance with.

@gt12 Kini is not a big winger like his brother. In fact, he would be smaller than what we have now.
I know, which is why I added ‘ineffective’
I know he’s an injury risk, but we don’t have much class on the wings, and he does have potential to be useful.
I hope we still have Lowe as he should be a starter, so with luck, ENS will turn the corner or Stevenson will get a bit more consistent.
There is also Wainui I guess, and we also have? Wrampling?
-
ENS has similar skills to Naholo so could definitely fill that role. He would be competing with Wainui on the left wing, but I'd really like to see him at fullback with his speed and stepping to provide a similar threat to DMac from deep. That leaves Lowe and Stevenson for the right wing, along with Sullivan.
I don't really see any explosive winger out there who isn't contracted.

Yet, really good wingers will sit on the bench (if they are lucky) for the Blues. Strange.
I think ENS is a bit shit at 15s, but I hope we’ll see him perform better this year. He can beat a man, but he’s a bit of a small turn-style on D.
By not having Dmac back there, we should have better balance in terms of size at least, I guess.
Do you think Sullivan will get some opportunities in the midfield this year?

He would say that centre is his favoured position. Sullivan has had so few opportunities since he has been in the main squad, so I'm not sure what the situation is there.
The first choice midfield will be Tupaea-ALB with Nankivell as the backup. I'd hope Sullivan is the next option, if he is still contracted, ahead of Wainui and Lowe. Wrampling is one for the future at centre.

going to be interesting how this plays out with contracts
keys to this year will be getting everyone fit eg moli (and signed) and getting brodie and sam back. as long as this happen im sure forward pack will be fine.
backs are going interesting as who has muli year deals and where we can move.
sullivan and pohipi will be at risk with wrampling i would imagine taking one of there spots.
what we really need is that out standing winger or two and how and who that could be. with out knowing what spots are available makes it hard to pick but they could use a spot from midfield and use wainui and lowe as backup .naholo opens up a spot or run loose forwards light (we had lots last year) at this stage Ratave ,Dawai and Narawa ? -

Someone said that we had signed meihana grindlay so am guessing he is on a wtg contract
No way he would be on a full contract ahead of Wrampling, who starts ahead of him in the NZ U20s, and has more experience at NPC/SR level.
I wouldn't mind the taranaki wing tikoisolomone seems to have some pace and x factor
Pick your Fijian winger from within the region.
