Chiefs 2022

Only a 1 yr deal, so probably DMac's replacement.
I am a bit disappointed by this. Where does that leave Reihana? Would have preferred local talent like Fletcher Smith or Orbyn Leger to cover the absence of DMac next year - and give Reihana some time along the way.
I certainly hope the Chiefs bring an improvement in Josh's discipline off the field. He has talent on it - but needs consistency - and I suspect improvements off the field can help. Bit of a risk by Chiefs though, especially when it is a line-breaking winger that they need most.
Is there word on the 3rd halfback? Is it Nock? Was hoping they might get Luke Campbell back if Hurricanes released him, or Cortez Ratima.

I would hope that Reihana will get some time this year off the bench, and as a one-year contract it shouldn’t be such as to push Reihana to leave. I do agree that we need some better wingers, but we still have Naholo on the books, right? If he can bring some form to the next level, we could be in much better shape than I thought we would be.

The Northlanders will have to answer this. But with Weber staying Nock would now be competing with Roe as his backup. His signing would have made sense to provide experience if Weber went overseas. Now, I'm not so sure. That said, having depth in such a vital position is important and we could sign Ratima to a WTG contract.

@bovidae AFAIK Nock as another year to run on his Blues contract.
Although that doesn't mean a lot nowadays as contracts are regularly cut short.

Orbyn Leger? The guy isn't a 12 at Super Rugby level let alone a 10. "only break in case of emergency" should apply.

“Look, all I know is Damian’s not going to be with us, at the moment that’s all I can sort of comment on,” Collins told Stuff on Tuesday.
Collins confirmed there were “a couple of spots” left to fill in the Chiefs’ 38-man squad for next year and that when the NPC resumed they were eagerly tracking several players from the provincial unions within the region.
No mention of Reihana in the article.

so in the last few years waikato or the chiefs have taken fletcher smith, gatland and now Ioane...leave us alone, pick on the saders!
....can we have smith or gatland back?
-
@kiwiwomble I feel your pain, the Blues did the same to us.
-
@kiwiwomble Didn't you take Hunt from the Crusaders? And Gatland from the Blues?
-
@stargazer and both were really upset and have really fall on hard times....poor blues with BB and crusaders with Mo'unga
-
@kiwiwomble Plenty of Chiefs players have moved in the other direction too, maybe not just in the same position.
Smith might be available if he isn't heading back to Japan.

He won't be going back to the Shining Arcs (Otere Black) but there will be other spots open I assume.

You're welcome to Gatland. He comes as a package deal mind you.

Well, I was really a bit pissed off with the Chiefs for losing Dmac with seemingly nothing in sight, but we have done as well as can be expected, given that we are losing our key game driver.
It should open up opportunities for younger players to have an opportunity (e.g., Trask at 15 or Stevenson etc) and we still have a player who should be able to drive around a Super team at 10.
So, less of a fuck you to the Chiefs board and coaching team, that's my new position. Until we start losing.

He would only have had a WTG contract this year.
While we would all like an explosive winger the coaches might think they've got enough cover with 5 players in this years squad able to play on the wing. If Wrampling gets a full contract he is an option there too. Maybe Narawa is available but not really a step up from who is there at the moment.
