All Blacks vs Wallabies Bledisloe 2 Eden Park 14th Aug

Excellent win in the end, but teh first 40 show all the weaknesses of 2017 onwards are still there. Against physical opposition, our plan is to have a few minutes of magic (SA, pool 2019), or hope the other side run out of puff (last night). What's scary in some ways is that there are now less than two full seasons to the RWC 2023, and I think we still don't have real clarity on first choices in a whole lot of positions.

I think thats a bit harsh , I thought we won the game in 1st half, playing into wind were up 21-13 at halftime, I actually said to wife then , we just need to use wind and we will win well. I in no way think it perfect, but I would much rather be where we are than Aussie.

Has the crowd been mentioned? Looked to be fuck all there. What a waster.
Yes it has and apparently you sound dumb.
Dumb comment was specifically for him saying it looked like less than 25,000. Super dumb.
For those saying it should have been held elsewhere, since Wellington was out the rest of the grounds were around 25,000 capacity so the would have got any more fans in.
Was a good noisy crowd anyway.

I thought it was our best performance under Foster and we looked much better due consistent selection (for once).
Strength of international rugby sides is a big unknown at the moment so we can’t really benchmark ourselves. We are anxious to do so as we want to see where we are at as a team as well as individual players so we can improve and grow.
We have lots of talented players in this side but only a few that we would definitely say are world class.
normally we would use wins in at stadiums like Ellis Park and Twickenham etc as proof that players are world class and that the team is up there but reality is we have only really played Aus and Argentina. And results last year were gash against them in a few matches.
Signs are promising but we need to play sides like the Boks, France etc to truly understand where we are at
We know on our day we could destroy France C.

@bayimports didn’t see enough of him to be sure but Kirk takes some beating. Gets major bonus points for refusing the Cavaliers tour.
Still Smith is outstanding.

Some great play to enjoy, and not sure if was obvious on TV but the Aussie focus was on off the ball bullshit. So much holding back and facials in rucks, lots of arguments between players. Dunno if they were doing the Rennie normal negative tactics , but it didn’t help their focus. Hooper lost the plot.
Saw Hooper hold back AB defenders well behind the line a couple of times. That was what sparked the push and shove with the Ioanes.
I think was the biggest improvement in the team, not being drawn into the niggle. We've done it before and lost focus. Basically stand up to it, don't react to it, and it is a negative for the opposition.

@bones It will be framed on my office wall and a core part of the curriculum for every class I teach.
When I was a TA (and setting the exams) at Berkeley I used to start every final with "Who is the greatest second five in rugby history?"
The answer, of course, was Lee Stensness.
Who?

Dane Coles must have been utterly PEAKING on the sideline.

2nd point
Do people think that was good?
The wallabies put in 40 minutes. And most of that was off our errors. For all the talk of playing tighter o saw the same old shit this week.
If those two guys are the best we have at 10, then we are Kinda fucked. Headless, chuck it around bullshit from the start.
Our forwards look like they could be good, but aren't given the opportunity to be. Our set piece creaks.
When it opens up by christ there is running talent to burn out there. The retallic try was gorgeous. And we punished errors repeatedly. But a good team wouldn't give us those opportunities.
If Aaron Smith gets hurt, shit will get very real, very fast.
At the risk of more ridicule, the way the Boks play and as good as they do that, it will be a real test. Totally different play style and player types. I am really looking forward to it. SO shit that it will be in Oz rather than here

Yeah I don't think he could have held back, lucky for us he had a calf strain!

NB Didn't think SBW said anything especially stupid but not a particularly insightful sports analyst, yet.
He is a master of the sporting cliches especially when he can use the same one twice in the same sentence. Had to laugh when someone said “the All Blacks never give you anything” comment that comes out quite often - I reckon we gave them a first half of poor defence and ten minutes of a yellow card in the second and it still didn’t help

Watching the highlights we did score some very pretty tries. Lots for the casual fan to gush over. We are absolutely lethal in an open game and there are some very talented players running around.

Watching the Boks with half their team out suffocate the Argies this morning, I was thinking how the first-string of available ABs team would stand up against the first-string Boks. It'll be interesting.
I am also dreading what the Argies will be like against us in a few weeks if we keep making stupid mistakes rather than actually doing the hard yards.
