Too many events at the Olympics?
-
Its also unfair as it further rewards the bigger countries with advanced swimming programs, who are already rewarded with individual and relay medals anyway.
I actually dislike swimming as a sport, only because of this shit, just integrate the Paralympic swimming events so that the pool is constantly being used during the event.

Swimming as an Olympic sport is a joke. The only way to address this is to remove all the slow events, which leaves you with free stroke of choice, which means everyone will be doing freestyle.

Don't have defined strokes - fastest whatever wins. Set distances sure - 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500. But that's it.
There's no "jogging" 100m race on the track FFS.

Yeah no variation at all. Other than walking, hurdles, triple jump, pole vault etc.
Which one of the swimming strokes is equivalent to jogging ffs. What a nonsense comment.

Point me to the 100m walking event, you pelican.

You said there was no variation. And tell me how a different swimming stoke equates to jogging. That’s an absolutely ridiculous statement.

100m running backwards event?
100m pole vault?
100m triple jump?
fuck's sake...
Ok how about the hurdles pelican?

Walkers do specific events; 20 and 50 km. I'm happy for neither to be in the Olympics. Triple jump isn't a race, but happy to lose that too.

Fair enough. I actually agree that swimming has too many events. 4x200m relay! Just why?
I just find the jogging statement so completely stupid. -

Where do swimmers have to clear objects?
Since it needs to be spelt out: There aren't events in athletics for doing the same thing but slower, like running backwards, or skipping over the same distance.
Keep in mind I'd immediately get rid of a bunch of shit out of the Olympics. Swimming is just a high profile (in Oz) and obvious example.
I might add this is why I don't consider Phelps to be great.

Long jump is fine - biggest number gets the gong. Triple jump is like long jump with autism.
There are no running events at the same distances with 4 different methods of "running". Hurdles is a different kind of athleticism and I can accept that as a sport.
Similarly, swimming should just be fastest over distance.
"Oh I think I'll porpoise my way up the pool while waving my arms in a retarded fashion and we'll make a medal for that in at least three different events"

Hurdles literally make you run slower. If it’s all about getting from A to B fastest then why hurdles? And hello walking? At the end of the day swimming and running are completely different things and comparisons are dumb. Running backwards is nothing like butterfly or breastroke vs freestyle. But again I agree that there are too many events.
Yeah you’ve mentioned the Phelps thing before and it doesn’t help your argument. Another ridiculously stupid statement.

As I said last year: Phelps has won a single Olympic gold medal where he alone was the fastest over a distance: 200m freestyle. Paavo Nurmi and Carl Lewis are better Olympians.

If I recall correctly you also said that Bradbury’s achievement was greater than anything Phelps ever did. That’s easily the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen on TSF, although the argument that butterfly is equivalent to jogging comes close.

Backstroke. I was talking about backstroke.
Sorry, I know you're a Queenslander and that may have been a bit too subtle for you.

You didn't lose your lollies as much as I expected to that bait. Which surprised me. Butterfly is slower than freestyle over the same distance. So is jogging, Any other analogies I can assist you with?
